I need tech advice. Everything is fitted and installed but I'm at a loss as to what this thing is attached to the release button. Some type of swivel device that maybe for another platform. Serves no purpose on my rifle what so ever. Do I knock the pin out and remove it? Here's a picture of it.

Buffer?.. What's it made of? Steel?

Steel, yes. If it's a buffer, it seems like it would beat the crap out of the bolt carrier. No pictures or videos I've seen of this set up show this piece attached to the push button release. A mystery to me.

from all the stuff i've seen from this system i think i'll stick with the side rail for mounting optics. i just don't think a dustcover rail is worth altering the way the gun operates or using proprietary parts....but thats just my humble opinion.

Its so the TWS Dogleg 2 can be used on .308Win AKs also.  You can leave it on or take it off.

It doesnt change the operation of the gun.  It operates the same way as any AK.  It  only disassembles differently, and offer a superior sight picture.

Looks like it causes the noes at the end of the carrier to mushroom more than normal.

Damn! I knew there was a thread going on the system itself but I didn't know there was an issue with that spacer. Looks like I'll be contacting TWS and try to get a replacement.

Nope.

You likely don't need to replace it if it's installed & your AK works fine. On mine it doesn't get battered any more then the stock button did.
Just make sure the button seats all the way to the rear like the stock did. You may need to file it some to fit right.

I've got about 500 rounds on mine and there aren't any marks on the bolt carrier from it.  Works like a champ.

Cut it off.  I did cause it got in the way.
