Greetings AK folks.  I know nothing about AKs, and a buddy of mine would like a little help.
He has a nice SLR 95 that he bought during Clinton's folly, and he would like to replace the silly thumb hole sporter stock with a side folder.

Any direction on the best stock, the best place to get it, and other possible choices?
Thanks a lot!

Does it have one tang or two tangs at the end of the receiver?  He has options.

Well since you dont know much about AK's a "tang" like said above is that 3 inch piece of metal sticking out the back of the receiver where you screw into the buttstock. There is one on top for sure but is there one on the bottom?

On that note, Mine didnt have one

Someone just posted a thread about it with the ace on it. Let me find it.

I have one with an ACE folder on it.  I used the receiver block that doesn't entail cutting as I don't want to permanently modify my milled receiver.  It is a little heavier but very rigid.  The block uses two bolts to secure it.  One through the back like a regular rifle stock and one from the top where the tang is (at least on mine).  I love ACE folders!
The one below has a Hogue grip and a Texas Weapon systems rail installed as well.

SLR 95s come with a single upper tang

I ran this same set up, the folding stock part at least, on mine for a while. It is a solid product and would recommend it to anyone. As stated, go external block if you don't want to cut the tang or internal if you don't mind cutting it off. I prefer the look and LOP of the internal but not everyone wants to chop their tang off. Another great thing is that if you don't want the skeleton style stock, you could also use their pig nose attachment and an AR buffer with it to use an M4 style collapsible stock instead

I agree that the internal block looks better and the rifle will be shorter overall when folded.  I used the internal block on my SAR-1 as I didn't mind cutting it but I am leery of cutting on a nice, milled receiver.  You also will likely save a few ounces with the internal block if you go that route.
