Okay, I've always said if it were not for bad luck I'd have no luck at all (Hee Haw).

So, I'm shooting my Yugo, today.  I get a fail to feed and when I look in side there is a piece of metal in there I did not recognize.  Get everything apart and I was shocked.

I don't know what to call this part and I'm trying to get pics downloaded so bear with me.

On the right and left side of the receiver, just before the chamber there is a piece of metal, nubs if you will, on both sides.  The one on the right broke off.  Sheared right off.

I don't really understand the purpose of these nubs, but figure they have some purpose.  Best I can tell, they line the bolt up with the chamber.

How the hell do you fix something like this?  Or, is this time for a new receiver?  WTF!?

Pics are horrible, but maybe you can make it out.

This is where it sheared off from.  Right side of the inside of the receiver.  Chamber is just forward of the sheared part.

This is what came off.

That appears to beone of the locking shoulders from the trunnion.
The locking lugs on the bolt engage the shoulders.
If I'm correct about what's broken off, the rifle is NOT safe to shoot.

That makes sense.  They lock the bolt in place after it is driven forward and it rotates?

Is there a fix or is it done for?

If thats what it is, that gun is now worth the going rate of a parts kit. Its going to need a new trunion, which means a complete tear down and rebuild.

Not even worth the  price of a parts kit because it is missing the front trunnion.

I've never seen that happen before. At least your face didn't blow up. Was the receiver damaged at all? While a trunnion isn't that expensive, the labor to fix that would be. At least you are OK.  GARY  N4KVE

Nah, I'd say its still worth about the same as a kit. If you're careful, you could remove the old trunion without destroying the receiver. That alone would save $55 + shipping + ffl fees. Also, barreled kits are getting kinda rare....

Well, this sucks!

I have not gone over it with a fine tooth comb, but nothing else appears to be damaged.  It just sheared right off and got in the way when the next round attempted to feed.

I'm glad I saw the piece in the receiver or I would have cleared it and kept on shooting.

So, as I figured, I am screwed.  Traded my perfectly working Draco for this one.  I knew I should have just turned the Draco into a rifle.

Don't call - email.
Play dumb. Don't provide the SN. Send them the pictures and ask them if it's safe to shoot.
Even if the warrany is expired, they might replace it as a way of preventing physical injury to you and financial injury to them.

I traded my Draco for it at a gun shop, the Yugo was used.  I never even thought about trying Century.  Thanks for the advice.

I've been trying to figure out if a builder can switch the front trunnion on it for less than a new Yugo.  We only have one smith in the area and I think he is pretty back logged.

Also, will any 762 trunnion work or do I have to find a Yugo trunnion?  A friend has found several, but none are Yugos.

I'd say try this. The worst that can happen is they ask for the SN and find they gun is not yours/second hand and they refuse service.

Is the receiver bulged out at the top near the front? If so, you need a Yugoslavian made one.
IDK if a standard AKM trunnion woll interchange with the non-bulged Yugoslavian trunnion.

From what I remember the Yugo barrel journal at the chamber is unique to Yugos. I don't think they will fit an AKM trunnion without being turned down.

Just my luck; or lack thereof.

Well, took a chance and emailed Century.  I did find this on their website:

"If the person returning the merchandise is not the original purchaser, they must submit a copy of their
driver’s license and our waiver of liability statement."

Gives me hope they might do something.

So, I guess I basically have an unusable parts kit?  Is that what I'm looking at?  Has anyone else ever encountered something like this.  I mean, there doesn't sound like much I can do.

Think positive, don't give up hope yet. I'd call Century & give them the ser#, & they can tell you right away if it's still in warranty. Beats waiting around for an E-mail response which might never come.  GARY  N4KVE

And the key is that the distributor is the original purchaser.  Be prepared the the drivers license and waiver requirement.

Spend some time thinking about what COULD have happened when the locking recess let go.
I think you'll find that your luck is pretty good. You're posting about the experiencs, not lying in a hospital bed.

So you fired rounds with a locking lug missing? That's pretty incredible really, and a testament to the durability of the AK rifle if so.

As others have said, the rifle is now a spare parts set.. Hope they take care of you.

You are correct and it is not safe to shoot. The only reason the gun didn't blow is there is another locking lug on the other side. I have never seen or heard of this happening. I have to think the trunnion was damaged at some point between military use and being made into the existing rifle.

You guys are right, I'll stop crying.  While in church, yesterday, I think I realized I was lucky to be sitting there and it all came clear.

I have already received a response from Century, but they have had another snow storm and the person I need to contact did not make it in, today.

So, I'm gonna hit the gun shop up and see what Century says and then do whatever has to be done to get another one.

It will not be shot, again.

How many round have you put through it? Do you think the previous owner may have seen a stress crack and sold it before it failed?

Best of luck and hope everything turns out good for you!

I put about 240 rounds through it.

I met the previous owner, the day I made the deal.  He seemed like a really good kid and just wanted something else and couldn't afford both.  I would hope he didn't do that.

I've had several email conversations with a very nice lady at Century.  She is in the process of checking my serial number for warranty, now.

Guess it is just time to be patient.

I looked around on Apex's site, couldn't find any Yugo trunions. If you want something to do while you're waiting for Century, you might want to give Apex a call and find out if a Romanian is the same. They should know, or at least be able to tell you where to get one for a Yugo.

I hope you get it figured out!

No, remember, the Yugos have RPK type trunnions.

Awesome news!  I had several email conversations with a very nice and helpful lady at Century.  She gave me a Return Authorization Number and the rifle is going back to Century, today.

I'm really stoked.  The gun Shop I bought it from gave me a box to ship it and I'm about to hit the Fed Ex center to ship her out.

All is good.  I will now be a flag waving supporter of Century!

Sent the rifle back as per instructions, Elaine at Century, gave me.  After 1 week I emailed Elaine and checked on the status.  She told me to check back the following week.

Monday I was busy and didn't have a chance to check.  Late that afternoon the Fed Ex guy shows up with my rifle.

After checking it they put my butt stock and handguards on a new rifle.  I was stoked!  Everything was straight and manually operated correctly.  Fed a magazine full of rounds through to see if everything cycles right and everything is good.

Saturday I will get a chance to shoot her and sight her in.

So, I have to say to all those folks who are always bad mouthing Century that I had great service and ended up with a new rifle without any hassles.

When you get a chance post some pics of the new gun.  Century took care of my once too.  Can't complain about their warranty service.
