Plan on having one built soon. The question, would you use a new barrel or use the one that comes with the kit? I've heard good things about the US made barrels. What say the hive on this one?

THX!

A M76 should be held to a higher accuracy standard than the AKs it's design is based on IMO.  I would only use the factory barrel if it was minty.  To me, using a sub-standard factory barrel on a M76 just so you can claim to have a factory barrel is stupid.  I have zero issues with the Green Mtn. barrel on my M76 and their M76 barrels have a very good track record.

Listen to Liquid...    I built my M72 on a sewer barrel just so I could save a few hours of work

I ended up removing it and replacing it with a new one after the first range trip.

thx! Just ordered a barrel. Now the next question. Do these rifles require a bullet guide? I'm thinking they do, but no idea where to get them, and no, I haven't used my google-fu yet. I just ran across one on GB and said hmmm....

Yes.  Borrowed pic of a Wiselite M76 receiver with bullet guide installed:

1 more question that came up when I was talking to my builder. Does the M76 have to comply with 922r? I argue it doesn't b/c it only has a 10rnd magazine capacity...I'm probably wrong. Opinions?

922r applies.  You only need 4 compliance parts because it's a milled rifle and the flash hider is an integral part of the FSB.  With a US receiver and FCG you're GTG in terms of compliance.

cool, guess it's a G2 and I'm done. THX again.

I'm wanting to build one too, except I want to make it in .308.  Are you all getting your parts from Century?  If so, how are they?

How are the Century M76s?  I've been looking at these for a while.  J&G has them for $999.  Typical Century builds?

I bought my parts off GB. Got a green mountain barrel and a wiselite receiver. I noticed though that my kit came w/o a barrel pin and the pins for all the barrel parts. Also no hammer stop in the receiver. Wondering if this is how these rifles are, or do I need to try and find one?
ETA: called the people I got the kit from, they're sending me the pins and the barrel pin, and checking w/ their builder about the hammer stop. Anyone knows, please chime in. Also, whoever has built one, what rivets did you use? I called Curtis @ AKbuilder and he needs me to measure the holes to know for sure. I'm assuming that standard yugo rivets for the trigger guard and the pistol grip nut, but what about the scope mount?

will put pics up of kit ltr today.
THX gain!

ETA2:

pics of kit. PArts are just placed are barrel for representation.

I'm getting really stoked about this build. Ever since I saw this rifle in Jane's years ago I've always wanted one.

That's a great looking kit you have there.  Are you going to build it yourself or send it off?

well this whole project took a 180 degree turn. The people I bought the kit from called me back b/c there were no pins in the kit. In the conversation they mentioned they build rifles. So I asked how much. Then they said, well we have some already built, we can give you $200 off, give you full credit back on your kit, and mail it out Monday.....

did the math and to buy the completed rifle ($1295) is almost what I already have in this kit ($999). Plus the completed rifle comes with 4 mags, kit only 2.

Mags are running $35 each at the cheapest I've seen anywhere, so that's another $70 if I tried to match it.

Plus the build which I was quoted about $300-350 from my guy I usually use.

Plus a refinish which about $150-200.

Which all equals $620 more I need to spend on the high side.

That brings my build total to $1619.

So I'm going to get the completed rifle and save over $250. Now I have to sell the receiver, which cost me $200. Green Mountain will take the barrel back with a 20% restocking fee. So I loose $25 there. That will still net me back $100.

And yes, next time we go to Marco's class I won't feel like a 3rd wheel, I'll have my own rifle and ammo.

is that a bad thing? I'm hoping not. Done a lot of research, nothing on these guys have popped up. Century M76's are junk though from all I have read.

They are very new on the scene, having bought up ORF's inventory and started building themselves.  Haven't seen a single review of their M76s yet.  Post up a detailed review when you get the rifle.
