Just picked up a used but unfired Siaga and noticed 2 very small dings on the left side of the receiver right above the magwell (it is hard to see in the picture )it looks as though they could have been there from the factory.
Do you guys think that they could have any adverse effects to the operation of the gun. I am pretty sure they will not but my OCD gets the best of me and a second or third opinion would be great thanks. http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/6539/saiga12.jpg http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/5157/saiga3.jpg http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/6012/saiga2.jpg |

It's an AK, it is supposed to have dents, dings, and scratches.
AKs are low end (no offense), shoot everything, drag thru the mud and on the rocks, pressed sheet metal guns. No safe queen there...you gotta use it. It gives it a distressed look. You notice them but nobody else will... Looks good though! |

If you can work the action and it's smooth, those will have zero effect on the rifle. You should see what some of the Iraqi and especially Afghan insurgents are running. Yeah, i was in Baghdad 07-08. Their stuff is all fucked up... but if it works it works. |

Thanks for the info guys. I was pretty sure it was just cosmetic but I always like to get another opinion.
I was going to pick up another Arsenal sgl-21 ( I sold a sgl-20 a while ago which I regret) then I came across the Saiga last week at great price. The gun was used but never fired and looked as though it was never touched except for the 2 dings. All the handling marks that are on it I put on in the last week . I just ordered my conversion/restoration parts so I am sure I will ding it up even more in the processes . I figured for the price and the Sagia and parts compared to a new SGL-21 I am way ahead of the game Thanks again ‘ |

mine has a dent from where the rivit press missed or slipped off the rivit. it works just fine. I think something like that happened to his - the worker threw it up on a rivet press and dinged it. Or whatever. Fortunately its in a spot where it totally doesn't matter. I wouldn't try to beat those dents out either - it'll just look worse. Tell your grand kids someday it got run over by a tank and still worked. |
