Please settle a debate between my friend and I. AK 47 receiver thickness. I say Norinco and Poly techs were 1.6mm rec. thickness untill sometime after the '89 ban. He thinks all chicoms are 1.0mm thick. A little help please.

Actually 1.5mm for all the Chinese. No change after 89. The Global trades receiver was 1.6mm, & then they made the 1.0mm. GARY N4KVE

I have also heard 1.5mm for Chinese, because their steel wasn't as good as European steel back in the 60s? So they had to make it 50% thicker.

The receiver thickness on the vast majority of Chinese AK's is 1.5mm. Some believe the Chinese went with the 1.5mm receiver to compensate for poor steel quality, another I heard was that the Chinese were not impressed with the durability of some Russian samples of AKM's they had, so they decided to thicken the steel to adress.
