You may have scope rail installed on any AK-47 or AK-74.
Best rails are ones that are riveted through the rear trunnion.
Unfortunately such rails for stamped 47 receiver are not available anywhere.
In this case builders use MTK-2 type, which may be screwed or riveted to the receiver without
utilizing the extra support of rear trunnion.

Below: BMP-1 (fits AK-47 trunnion only) is riveted through rear trunnion.
MPK-2 (may be mounted on 47 or 74 rifle) is not riveted through trunnion.
All other rails are for AK-74 rifles.

I am having my local smith install a side mount on my SA M-7. It needs to be drilled and riveted.  All those mounts look different, but  I assume they all work the same. I called the smith back and asked him to use a bulgarian mount if he could. Are there any quality issues with mounts? I want the quality of the mount to match the quality of the rest of the parts. I get the feeling that I probably should have specified the exact part.
