Looking to a Bulgarian Triangle side folder, found this Atlantic Firearms. Curious on how the quality of this is. I know Arsenal has an exact model but can't seem to find it for sale anywhere.

That IS an Arsenal.

Quality is the best you are going to find this side of a custom build.

That is not an Arsenal.  Atlantic has already stated that they get them in from different builders and last I heard, they are still out of stock.

The Arsenal abomination uses that @#*%$(#*! bolt-on side folder.

I remember reading somewhere that those were built with the DPH triangle folders.

Arsenal doesn't build on Nodak receivers that I've heard.

If it was a Arsenal product I suspect they'd be using the Arsenal model number and tell you about it in no uncertain terms. BSW

I called Atlantic and they wouldnt specify as to who the builder for the Bulgarian side folders.  His words were "We get them from various providers"

Now tell me that isnt a BS answer.

Heh that is kinda shady, I dont know that much about AK's but from what I've looked into I've gathered Arsenal is a safe bet for anything you'd want regardless. I just can't seem to find anything in stock anywhere I look...

Thanks, now question how easy would it be to switch the stocks out for the not as bulky triangle stock?

I called Kvar, they said no that they wont interchange .  It sounds like to me the way he was describing it, that it is similar in idea to the Tapco folder (uses the standard rear trunion for a wood stock)

It's a AK made with a Nodak spud receiver using Bulgarian parts.

I have one, and LOVE mine. It's the rifle that I have chosen to be my SHTF gun. They are excellent.

Thanks for all the info I guess I guess got a little more research to do before I decide. Although I assume if the the Nodak receivers are made to spec there should be no difference than an arsenal receiver coming from Russia or Bulgaria?

They used to be ORF, a year or two ago. But, I believe that they've used one or two other builders since then. The kits are now in limited supply and who knows when they'll be able to get more, or who is going to do the builds for them? So, no, it's not really a BS answer.

whatever you do, make sure that you do not buy a sidefolder with the current crop of dph folders.  the trunions were not heat treated correctly and are soft.

Yes, and if you rivet a clapped out parts kit onto one, what do you get?

A clapped out AK with a top of the line receiver.

I've never seen the rifles in question and Atlantic has a very good rep for standing behind their products. I just think the price is kinda high for a generic Bulgy AK.

this is 100% true, even though the trunnions will take to heat treating they are NOT.  Soft is an understatement, hes being nice.......

There may be some problems with the DPH stocksets, but for $99, they aren't that bad, and I can harden those rear trunnions. They are just as strong as the Bulgarian sidefolding trunnions when I'm done with them.

The polished bolt carrier in the ad spells Lancaster - probably with the Taiwanese folder.
