Well birthday past Friday meant I got my new gun lol.  First AK and think I did ok. Sar-1, with a wire folding stock. 340$?  Shoots pretty good in short time I got to shoot it no ftf or fte from some German steel case stuff. Also any idea if ammo is corrosive? White box made on germany all kinds of safety stuff on box?  Anyway first 7.62 AK I have shot and it surprised me in recoil. Less than I expected by far.  Anything I need to look for with this gun? Here's a cell pic for now.

Happy birthday!

If you want to get what you really want.... sometimes you have to buy it yourself. Good job. Does it have threads or a lug? Lug doesn't matter, but you may want to thread the barrel if it isn't already. It's got dimples I'm not big on paracord, but it looks nice. I have no clue on the ammo, but clean the bore with some Hoppe's #9 and you will be GTG. Get a Boresnake if you don't already have one. They are well worth the money. Don't forget to run it from the chamber to the muzzle and try not to pull it out without it being centered in the bore. Some people tend to let the Boresnake wear out one side of the crown. GTG and good job.

I have no idea about your ammo, but unless you know otherwise I would probably treat it as corrosive and clean accordingly.  If it is and you don't you will have a rusted mess before you know it.  At the very least I would check it often for signs of rust starting over the next couple of weeks.  At the first signs of rust I'd assume corrosive ammo and clean accordingly.  Hopefully the safety stuff on the box means it is commercial and non-corrosive but you never know and all military surplus AK ammo is corrosive.

Fine looking rifle.  Shoot it often and have fun.

I had a few style brakes on my SAR-1 and currently have just a plain old slant on it to compliment the Russian Wood I dressed her back in.  I actually had an AMD 65 brake on it that I liked a lot.  I thought it looked ok and was pretty effective.
