i guy in the ar section droped his expensive ar off the shooting table. and now the bolt will not pass through the upper reciever. i felt for the guy but i felt like posting saying heck you can run over a ak and still kill many bad guys or paper targets. i have a stag ar/m16 that i love but heck if the ar is soposed to be a battle rifle and you drop it 4ft and it is no good to you anymore what do you do throw it at the bad guy.

That must've been some kind of drop and impact.  I also have a Stag Arms M4 clone and have admittedly been somewhat abusive to it without any issues.  Those I've had in Iraq endured a great deal of roughness also without issue.

While I enjoy the Kalashnikov and have also carried one while deployed, I'd choose an M4 every time.  They're not as delicate as many say they are.  And as an aside, I've also seen the Kalashnikov fail from abuse, as well - they're tough but they're not infoulable or unbreakable, either.

i hear you i abuse my stag its been great. and yes any gun is breakable including the ak. but i think you could drop a ak 20 times from 4ft and it will still fire. but i have no real data on that quote.

Let me start off by saying that I love both the AR and the AK. I have read that post you are talking about, and i feel bad for the guy. I would be mad if my new gun broke. I do not however blame the gun just because it fell and wont fire. It was the perfect storm, as they called it in that thread. Ive dropped my AR and seen many drop from that distance, they all fired. Just because 1 breaks doesnt meant there all junk. Yes, I have seen Ar's go down but I have also seen AK's problems to, not just centuarys either.

Since you seem like a AK guy, ill try and give a senario. Lets say Bob has shot ar's all his life, never a problem. Then one day, he decides he wants to give the AK a try (which he knows nothing about) so he goes down to his local gun store and picks up a centuary arms ak. Takes it to the range and is disappointed. His gun FTE's and keyholes the whole day, and on top of that he cant even sight the gun in because it has canted sights. He then sells the POS and then goes over on the AR15 forum and makes a post on how bad the AK is. Then he keeps tellin his story over and over and then many more people believe it.

Is it fair for him to do that? After all the AK did give him trouble. His sample size was 1, as the one in the other thread, just because 1 couldnt take the fall due to out of spec parts, the perfect storm, murphys law, whatever...it does not mean they all do it.

Sorry if this post seemed like a attack at someone, or a centuary bash because it was not. I own a SAR 1 and a WASR 10 and I love them both and recomend them as long as you can inspect it first. Im also considering a WASR 2 from aim, sure is hard to pass up with all that 5.45!

all this could be true and i understand where your comming from. but i never said ar's are junk i own one and said i abuse it. but i saw the pictures of where it bent from the blow. and that was fucked up and looked like a weak spot on the ar i never even thought about. lets face it the ar is no where as tough as the ak.

Ditto.  I abused the hell out of several M4's while I was in the Army.  I never had anything break on them.  Only weapon I managed to break was an M240B when it was brand new.  Must have been defective.

I'd actually think an AK on average would break easier from say a 4 foot fall onto concrete.  The top cover could dent and prevent the bolt carrier from moving.  A dent in the gas tube could do the same thing.  These kind of things are much less likely to happen to an AR because the upper receiver is much more solid and could take a bigger impact.

I love AKs but I have so much experience with M4's in the Army in some very adverse conditions that I really think a lot of the AR unreliability talk is just a bunch of nonsense.  They aren't an AK, but they don't fail remotely as often as some AK fans would lead you to believe.  Probably 90% of my issued M4's failures came from shooting blanks(blank adapters aren't so great) or were from junk magazines I was issued.

This was exactly what i was talking about

I havent read the whole thread yet, as I dont have time but it seems like the exact thing i described earlier...wish I would have seen this first..

This argument will never end, its like ford vs chevy. I see both sides of the argument, and to solve the problem I have, use, and love BOTH! At the moment I been into ak's latly... i just got back off of the mosin nagant bug for about the 100th time.

before this thread gets locked for being never ending or a dupe, i'd like to say i'd trust my life w/ my ak . mainly because i have more experience w/ them and can actually hit stuff when i try. i have beat them up and they keep going for me. just what i prefer, not nockin' an ar.

The story sounds like bullshit. AR's aren't that fucking delicate.

nobody said ar's are delicate. i even said that i have a stag ar that i beat the piss outta it. its just that one drop from 4ft and it could be a boat anchor. what i am trying to state is that its less likely an ak will do that from the very same drop. and i might add i LOVE MY STAG AR. and it an't a story the post has pictures of the weapon in the ar section.
