Pretty awesome but it's weird the way the guy draws it. Is it normal to draw that way. I've always drawn the outline of a head, eyes, etc first then shadow it out after. That just seems really weird to me... |

There are two basic ways to draw objects. Either by lines, where you outline things and fill in the outlines, or by shapes, where you just put down "shapes" of varying value similar to how that is being done. |
