I just purchased a NHM-91 from someone through another site. While I couldn't be happier with the rifle (actually taking it to the range tomorrow) I had a question for you more knowledgable folks. When I purchased the rifle, the bipod was not attached. I can't for the life of me figure out how to put it on and googling hasn't turned up any answers. Can anyone help? I would appreciate it! Sorry for the repost, I wasn't getting many views in the Chinese section.

if it is like some of the rpk rifles the site post has to be removed to install the bipod. the bipod on my MAK-91 had pins on each side of the mount, you just had to drive one of the pins out so it could hinge open then wrap it over the barrel and replace the second pin

Mays is correct. Knock one of the pins out. How much did you pay for the NHM-91, was it converted/restored, and what came with it. Just curious. I have one that I may sell.

I just purchased from someone off another site. We transfered it at a local FFL. I paid $400 for it. It is in excellent condition and came with the directions, the bipod, a 10 and a 20 round magazine. He threw in a real nice hard case as well. I am taking it to the range for the first time tomorrow. This is my first AK. Did I do alright? Everything I read seems to say I did. One other question, only Chinese magazines will fit because of the rivets preventing others from seating properly correct?

This is what I bought!

That one is exactly like mine was when I bought it new. You did great.

This pin on the bipod.... or the same one on the other side.... doesn't matter. Don't knock it all of the way out. Just enough to swing the top over like a hinge.

</a>" />

After you have bought 6 US made parts to install on the weapon(stock, handguards, grip, trigger set =3, muzzle device, gas piston.... take your pick) , take this pin out of the front sight base. Pull the detent out. Find a short spring (like in a ballpoint retractable ink pin). Put it where the detent came from, put the detent in backwards, and put the pin you knocked out back in. Check to see if the detent goes in and out like it is supposed to. If all is good, put your muzzle device on. Remember it has left hand threads so righty is not tighty and lefty is not loosey.

So as it stands I cannot legally put the bipod on? Thanks for clarifying how it goes on. i have been looking EVERYWHERE haha. I am glad I got a good deal. I figured a Norinco for the price of a WASR was a good steal. These can only use Chinese magazines correct?

No, by all means, bipod away.... perfectly legal. When referring to the US parts I was talking about making the threaded muzzle functional. It should take any standard 7.62 surplus mag.... drums too. Yeah, you did good. Thick reciever and super heavy barrel.... what's not to like? These things are built like a tank.

Cannot wait to fire this baby tomorrow. We are also taking my friends WASR 10/63. I'm also going to buy a punch in the AM to see if I can get that darn bipod on haha. I want a 30rd mag for this. I appreciate all your help. I'll let you know if I got the bipod on alright.

I paid $349 for mine in 1994.

I thought it was an OK deal then, and I think it was a very good deal now.  verrry smooth trigger, shoots where you point, never has failed ever once never.

I would buy another one for $400 in a new york minute.

The pin on the bipod should come out pretty easy. The one on the sight base may be difficult to get out without a good punch. Craftsman makes some good ones and if you break them.... they replace them. Have fun and be safe.... pics too.

JD, you may have trouble fitting some mags in the well, I'[ll take a quick look for a link, but I had to file away a little on mine to allow all my mags. Now, all my mags fit fine.

eta-

NHM-91 were made with a rivet where the rear tang of the magazine hits the receiver. Most owners removed this so that standard AK47 magazines would work without modification.

I know I've seen detailed pics somewhere, I may even have some in my photobucket account. Search.

Mine didn't have that. I have used E. German, Romy, Chinese mags, and Chinese drums with no modification.

Also funny you guys say that, one of my friends that I am shooting with later has a 10/63 and bought a 30 rounder for his. I just put it in my NHM with two rounds of ammo and it fit, locked, and cycled just fine! It did however wobble a little bit, is that just because it isnt a chinese magazine? Both my 10 and 20 rounder feel thicker than his 30.

Yes, the Chicom mags are a little wider. My Romy mags wobble a bit in my NHM-91. The E German mags seem to fit a little better, but not as good as the Chinese.
