Im looking at getting into an AK and I have noticed that the one's refereed to a WASR tend to be cheaper. Is there a preferred brand to buy/stay away from? |

I have a WASR 10/63, it shoots great, however the same day I got it, the rivet that support the cross bar support broke off...I sent it to Jim Fuller had him Fullerize it, go to Rifle Dynamics to see what is done and now it is an even better shooter... jim does great work |

Arsenal FTW. I would tell you about the "new" folding 5.45s they are shipping but I'm keeping it to myself until I get mine. You're not talking about the extended buttstock one are you? If so, go nuts with it. Yeah, he can have all of 'em. With the extra two inches of length, they look..."odd". |

WASR's are just fine. Maybe their wood gives up a bit in the cosmetic department to higher priced rifles (which usually come with plastic anyway - so what kind of comparison is that?) However, you can easily refinish the worst looking WASR wood to run circles around anything made of plastic. You will find two kinds of recommendations for AK's: From the crowd that spent lots of money on theirs, they will tell you that everything is junk except for the high priced stuff. From the crowd that went the economical route and bought the cheaper AK, they will tell you theirs shoots just as reliably and accurately as the high priced models and they don't care about the cosmetics.
Just like some people buy their jeans for $80 a pair at a mall store, and others buy the $19 ones at Costco. Each group will try to justify their choice as the smarter way to spend their money. You will hear lots of remarks about "fit", "finish" and "cant". Those are pretty much minor or non-existant concerns these days. Easy enough to check for if you are able to inspect the AK before buying. If you're expecting a heirloom out of the box sight unseen, spent lots of money to try to get that. If you want to save money and possibly do some work yourself (like refinishing a stock, etc.) then don't spend much money on your AK. It really does boil down to the $80 jeans vs. $19 jeans question. Which do you normally buy? Choose how much to spend on your AK accordingly. No, I don't know what "WASR" stands for. But if I owned one, you'd probably find it in my nice, reliable "Found On Roadside Dieing" FORD truck. |

I can't help but think a lot of guys will buy one without looking close and seeing what it is they are actually getting. |

Many hundreds of rounds through it without a hiccup (Wolf ammo). Accurate as hell at 100 yards. |

Well since it's already been answered I'll chime in again just to say that my WASR 10/63 has been perfect. Goes bang every time and puts the rounds where I want them.
To top if all off it wasn't a NINE HUNDRED DOLLAR Saiga conversion that I can and have done myself with a halfassed extended folder mechanism added. |

K-var front page.. all loud and proud like they are doing us a favor..haha It's just an SGL31 with that triangle folder retrofit deal that fits into a fixed stock trunion and adds 2-3 inches to the length of the rifle... for $899. |

Wow, that thing looks retarded. I thought Arsenal was all about being mil-spec? |
