...by my friends 11 year old daughter.  I have a new 7.62 AK that I had fired on one previous range trip, and had sighted it in at 25 yards.  Never shot it any further than that yet.  So today we set up at the rifle range and his little pre-teen Annie Oakley was trying out the AK.  Sitting at a bench with no rest (she used the 30-round mag as a mono-pod to stabilize the rifle) the little devil put her first shot into a 2" bullseye at 100 yards.  I couldn't believe it.  I thought this had to be luck, but she kept putting things on target.  Dang!  Then she picked up a Mosin Nagant 7.62x54R and was on target at 100 yards with that too.  Both the AK and the Mosin had standard iron sights.  I shot the Mosin later (what a hoot!), but those things are not .22's.  They certainly let you know when you pull the trigger on them.  And here we had an 11 year old sharpshooter with one.  I have some pacticing to do, that's for sure!

I can tell you from my time working with the 4H shooting program here in VA, that the young ladies in the classes usually ended up being the best shooters.

I wonder how long she had been shooting to be able to do that.  Her Daddy is a good man if he is the one who taught her those skills.  Kids will keep you humble in a lot of ways and now add this to the list.

I think it's those young, sharp eyes! So much crap floating around in mine I'm always swatting at flies that aren't there!

women for the most part are great shooters. My ex wife could shoot circles around me with her M1 carbine.

Women actually are built better for shooting than men.  They are also steadier.  One of my best friends just got back from Fort Benning Saturday where he was attending the World Games as the factory armorer for Anschutz and Walther.  He was once again amazed how good of shots some of them were.  Men have to work at being that good, where as some females come by it naturally.

Had a nagant revolver.  At the range 50' to show my wife how to shoot it.  Old guy there opines that he tried one once and the trigger was horrible.  She picks it up and shoots a fist sized group dead center.  She says, " this will work fine for me. "

I took my girlfriend shooting a while back. She picked up a .22 revolver (this was her first time shooting, ever, mind you) and after some quick instruction, shot on a level that took me lots and lots of practice to get to. Women are natural sharpshooters.

Young eyes and steady nerves, especially compared to some of us 40+ guys.

Agreed! I'm 44 and while still very capable, my eyes are not what they were 20 years ago. The hands arent as steady as they used to be either and when you combine those two it can make a noticeable difference.
