I was checking out the Century VZs at J&G sales. I know Century has a spotty rep so I thought I'd get some feedback from you knowledgeable gents. What say you?

I have it narrowed down to the VZ, Romanian PSL, or another AK. I already have a Norinco 7.62x39. No VZs or PSLs yet and no AKs in 5.45x39.

Any feedback appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the input! After reading up on the 5.45 lately I have to admit it is an attractive option. I have been looking at the Arsenal rifles and they look sweet.

Always wanted a VZ-58 too though and was curious whether the VZ 20008 was remotely close to the quality of a CP VZ58.

Anyone know what receiver Century is using on the VZ 2008? ORF?

They claim they're being built by a local machineshop.

Mine works pretty good, handles nicely, and costs relatively little.

I'd pick one up if I were you.

The VZ 2008 is close to the CP version, but there are differences that go beyond just machining quality. The CP versions have original barrels that are less than 16", so they must have a barrel extension permanently installed and they don't have bayonet lugs. The Century version use 16" threaded barrels so you can use any VZ-58 mu8zzle accessory and they have bayonet lugs.

The machine work is better on the CP rifles though since the Century guns exhibit milling machine marks. I'm not sure who made the receiver or who did the assembly.

What is the going rate for the Century VZ-58?  How is the trigger, and is the barrel threaded for standard AK muzzle devices (14x1L) or is it the original VZ-58 threading (14x1R)

J&G has them for $429. The trigger is okay, although I'm not sure what you're looking for in an answer to that. They are threaded 14x1R.
