i have an SSR 85c from TGI..
the front sight is a bit cooked. i cant quite get it to sight due to how bad it it. it like right there though... so close..

well rather than send it in to get fixed i decided to do it myself..

i mean its just 2 pins and a couple love taps and G2G.

well i am having trouble getting the pins out... i have smacked the shit out of them, and they wont budge. i tried both sides of the FSB to no avail.

i shot some CLP on the pins and FSB hoping it will penetrate in there and help me out.

any other ideas? tips?
thanks

Get yourself a heavy duty center punch and a tapered nail set.  Use a hockey puck style backer with a hole drilled in it to back up the bottom side of the FSB.  Right side down.  Use the center punch to get the pin moving, use the nail set once it starts moving, the nail set is less likely to bend than a regular punch.

Then switch to a punch.

If you still can't get them to move they may have been mushroomed.  If so you may have to grind them a bit with a dremel wheel.  If they still won't come out you are going to have to drill them out.

ok.. sooo....

i got a torch, heated it up. not glowing, but the shit was hot..

grabbed my pin punch.. hammered away to no avail....

and then.. the damn punch broke

this mother fudger is permanent.

i tried drilling out the pins and the shit was not happening.. i have the superbadass drillbits that "last forever in metal" didnt make a dent....

i heated it up and smacked it with a hammer, i think it moved a little bit.

i guess i'm just gonna have to deal with it.

at least i have a red dot now...

Did you use a center punch like I said?

Did you use a tapered pin punch like I said?

Did you use a heavy hockey puck type backer with a hole drilled in it?

A pin punch is not going to work

This , or something similar should work. I usually just use a piece of scrap 2X4 or something like that, and it works fine.

You buy  hockey puck and drill a big hole in it, a large plastic hole plug will work, AR15 FSB hockey puck type backer will also work and can probably be bought from brownells but you can make one cheaper.  If you don't back the FSB and barrel against something you aren't going tomget it to move.

A large tapered nail set punch is not going to break or bend.  I've done plenty of these and they all come out if you do it right unless they were welded over.  Even if you have to use a dremel to grind a bit they will come out.

iok, you realy did mean a hockey puck..

i have been using a scrap piece of 4x4 as a backer, had the rifle clamped to it by the barrel and gas block when i tried.
i can see the pins, they do not appear to have been welded over. i will get a center punch, and some taper pins i guess.

thanks for the help guys

I've done a few of them. Sooner or later you learn the right way to do it.
