So I picked up my TGI Truck Gun today and took it to range to sight it in.  When I picked it up I noticed that the bolt carrier tended to get stuck at the very rear of the receiver.  After I cleaned the cosmoline off it seemed to run a little smoother but it still seemed to stick a bit when pulled all the way to the rear.  I only brought the mag (promag) that the rifle came with, figuring I wouldn't be shooting a ton.  After the first shot it jammed.  The next round was in the chamber but the bolt hadn't closed on it all the way (the barrel was showing between the trunnion and the bolt carrier.  It was very hard to open the bolt and eject the jammed round.  It would occasionally feed correctly but more often than not the bolt would get stuck in the same fashion it did after the first round.  If I placed a round directly in the chamber and racked the rifle it worked.  If the round was not fully in the chamber but at angle to the barrel it jammed.

Is this a problem with the magazine or rifle?  Should I send the rifle in?

Seems to me that it was not cleaned well at all.

Strip it and clean everything like it should be, lube and re-assemble

We cleaned if fairly well but when it jams it jams really hard.  So hard we had to very carefully kick it open.  I feel like it would have to be some pretty hard grime for this to be the problem.  I will clean it very thoroughly tomorrow though and try again.

The bolt hangs up cause its a new fcg breaking in. If you notice, over time and rounds fired, it will smooth out. You will see where the metal will rub itself smooth.

Second, your promag is garbage. Mine jammed 5 shots in a row and it went in the trash. All surplus mags work fine.

A good cleaning is needed, the rifle has cosmo deep in there, you need to brake clean it. Once you get all that out, oil it up and take it back out.

You should be good to go.

A good ak will run without being cleaned (barrel clear of course).  It may be the mag hanging it up somehow.  Can you tell what it's hitting or catching on?

This gun has an american made fcg installed by the importer like the Century arms guns have done to them for parts # compliance and probably just needs some "use" to brake it in properly. I have noticed this same issue on most of the imported AK's I have bought with the american made fcg installed.

If it still does it after the first hundred rounds you might have an issue....so go to the range and blast away!

Ooh ya, and that Promag mag sucks......but you might need it for compliance parts # count, so be careful, get a few Tapco mags to use.

Alright.  The mag wasn't the problem.  The extractor works fine as well.  I think it might be a headspace issue.  I've tried it every which way and the bolt has a lot of difficulty closing on the round.

If you suspect this is the reason and all else is ruled out, contact TGI, they will take care of you.

Really?

I shot the piss out of my 5.45 krink when it was still full of cosmo and didn't clean it for 3 months, it's run great the whole time I've owned it. I haven't cleaned my 107UR in about a year either (I don't run corrosive through it and so don't worry about it rusting up)...runs great.

AK's do run fine unless they are really nasty dirty and gunked up, but normal shooting with typical carbon fouling doesn't ever seem to do squat to them.

I beg to differ. My MAK90 sat in dad's safe for nearly 15 years until he died last August. To my horror I found that the gun had not been cleaned in that time. And all metal surfaces are rusted all over. Bore filthy, gas tube filthy and a bit rusted.
Monday I ran a 30 round mag through it without it seeing a drop of oil or cleaning. Ran perfectly. And it still hasn't been cleaned yet. I'm sure it won't mind another mag or two if I decide to.
Contrary to your comment, any AK that's not broken or rusted shut will run just fine regardless of cleanliness. Just shake out the big chunks and as mentioned, make sure the bore is clear. You think all the mullahs over in the sand box clean their weapons and make sure they are properly lubed everytime the wind blows it full of sand? Think again. Our troops WISH the damn things would quit.

So go spout YOUR crap somewhere else. Maybe the Glock fourm.

Chinese guns are known for rusting since they have a blued finish, just like any other blued firearm that is not oiled and put away dirty.

OP, did you clean and oil your rifle?

Are you riding the bolt closed or pulling it back and letting it slam closed?

Junk the Pro-mag for one.

I have never had a 74.(yet) but its sounding like the WASR10 i had. when i got it, the damn thing would not fully camber the round. i would hit the bolt handle like a forward ass. if i did not fire the round i would have to kick open the bolt. i took it home and cycled the action about 3-4 hundred times. this cleared up the issue. then when gun prices shot up late last year, i sold it.

What I spouted is fact, my friend. My gun. My ammo. You'll have to trust me as the condition it's in. Runs fine.

Since you have first hand experience in the sand box, instead of flippantly tossing vauge statements and attacks on others experience, why don't you back up your claims with some stories of your own. Pics would help. Tell us what you saw, how the guns acted, how they responded to different levels of abuse and grime. What worked and what didn't.  Back it up and you'll be respected. Blow it off and get defensive and you're a wannabe ahole and a troll. My mind is still open and I'm willing to listen to someone who's BTDT. How about it, Rooster? Help us fix some of these touted "inaccuracies".
