I do.

I lightly oil the rails but you're better off polishing the rails for smooth action. This has a lot to do with the smooth action of older, well used, AKs.

No, but its not rocket science. Use a file and smooth out the burrs and rough edges, do a little at a time and check it with your bolt carrier.

If you feel the need for lubrication, use a thin film of motor oil on the rails and work the shit out of the action, it'll polish itself after some use.

The people who designed the rifle specified oil as lubricant.
I've always assumed the people who designed the rifle, and built and maintained millions of them probably had some idea about what works best.

And away we go...

I use grease and oil depending on the application.

I highlighted the operative word in the post. There's no shortage of people who think they know more about the rifle than the Soviets ...

I'm supposed to lube these things?

I have always just used regular gun oil, never had any problems with that.

In the hot Arizona climate I used the red Mobile 1 synthetic grease I had left over after I sold my last vehicle that ever had grease fittings. I rubbed a dab onto the rails and wiped off the excess.  Never had any issues.  I also use any small amount of motor oil left over in the bottom of a bottle when I change my vehicles oil.  Haven't bothered buying gun oil in years.

alot of the AR15 guys use motor oil. i run my ar and my ak's WET.

Whatever axle grease is available. I have some Sunoco stuff for wheel bearings that works like a charm . I use it on ALL my guns on all sliding surfaces, except my AR's which I use Militec on.

I have tried regular motor oil in my AK's and although it works I find that it ends up all over my eye pro after only a few shots. In the heat of battle if you were sbotting without glases or goggles, that shit would be in your eyes and you'd be in a world of shit.

CLP doesn't stay from what I have observed it is way too viscous and will wick away from wherever it is applied with gravitty and time alone.. It's a good gun cleaning oil. i.e. I wipe my guns down with it but won't use it as a lube for carrier or slides.

I've always been partial to gunslick graphite lube for the slides and rails on my firearms. Seems to work fine and it comes in a handy small sized tube to stick in a kit. A little bit goes a long way.

I used white lithium grease , a spray can from Autozone is around five bucks. WOrks like a charm.

I've used Breakfree LP, Slip 2000 EWL, red wheel-bearing grease, and TW25 at various points with various rifles.  Honestly, oil is easier, but grease has never caused an issue for me on an AK (AR was a different story).

I should clarify I only used grease on the bolt carrier rails.  I've only ever used a good oil on the bolt itself.  As was previously stated "the Soviets specified oil".  Recently I've switched to SLIP 2000 EWL for all my Semi-autos.

Yep! Super cheap and a tub will last you a lifetime, even if you have fifty guns you shoot on a regular basis. Just a bit on the tip of a knife, spread it where it needs to be, and you're done!

I use breakfree clp in all of my guns.

But I did polish the rails on my ak with a dremel and the polishing wheels. i also got the bottom of the bolt carrier and the hammer to a mirror shine. The action is butter smooth!
