can someone tell me about the pros and cons of this rifle please? my dad wants one and i'll probably going to pick one up for him this week.
btw, the most important question that i want to ask about this rifle is that is the barrel chrome-lined? edit: i have never pay much attention to this rifle so i only have very little knowledge of it please don't flame me |

Yes, the barrel is chrome lined
Pros: Very affordable (Under $600 with original optic) Cheap to shoot (Surplus ammo about 25 cents/round) Reliable (built on AK-47 platform) Cons: Surplus ammo corrosive (not a problem if you clean it correctly) New ammo expensive (about $18/20 rounds) This rifle was intended to shoot light ball ammo (around 150 grains). Some say that shooting the heavier ball will damage the frame, but I have so far been unable to find any evidence supporting this. My only guess as to why someone would tell you not to shoot the heavier stuff is that the optic was designed to be fire with light ball and heavy ball will have a different zero. There have been several people that have successfully shot heavy ball for years without causing damage to their rifle. This rifle is not by any means a sniper rifle. Do not buy one expecting 1 inch groups at 100 yrds. 2-3 is typical. They are more a "designated marksman rifle. I think that if you buy one knowing this, you will be very happy with your rifle. They are really a great buy IMHO. |

Yes, barrels are chrome lined.
DO NOT buy it thinking you're getting some kind of sniper rifle. It is not. Not by capability, not by design, not by role. It is an "extended range AK"...nothing more. It doesn't exactly spray bullets all over, you should be able to hit a paper plate at 300m no problem with ammo it likes, but a bolt gun it is not. They're reliable, they'll usually eat about any "light ball" (145-150gr) ammo you want to feed it, the BDC in the scope makes it easy and fun to shoot, but the surplus ammo is corrosive and means an extensive cleaning regimen after every range trip. |
