"'m kinda bummed as this is my first AK.  Before I go monkeying around with this myself I'd like to know of any suggestions on a fix?  The whole gas tube is canted in which it's throwing of the sights etc...  Like I said I am a newbie to the AK but am fairly handy.  What a bummer...wish the shipper gave this a better look before sending it out.  This may be typical ( I hope) and an easy home fix for me. Help a brutha out.

No problem.  Have you removed the gas tube (with upper handguard) yet?  It looks to me that it was not correctly assembled.  The gas tube will fit in and click into place when pressed straight into place, but if not done with care, can slide to one side.  In what position is the release lever (located on the right side of the rear sight block)?  If this is what has happened, then there is no need to worry.  Just snap the tube into place correctly.  You will need to remove it first by opening the release level.  Please send a few more pics please, with the top and side views. :)

Thank you for your quick repy Serb.  The light's are out and I wanted do do a quick check on this thread before I hit the sack, so I will snap some more pics tomorrow.  The AK is back in the safe so not sure what position the lever is in.  This does make me feel better tho if that's all the prob is.

Ok I stripped it and tried to see if something wasn't snapped into place correctly and found nothing that wouldn't go back together like it came apart.  Here are a few more pics. Not sure what angle you wanted.

Thanks for taking the time to post the new pics.  You see the release level on the right of the rear sight block?  Is that able to be pushed down to the closed position? There is an indent in the metal for the stopping point.  From these angles it looks like the gas block (in front of the gas tube) is canted.  This should be an easy fix with just about any gunsmith.

Yes sir, it can be pushed into the down position.    Guess I will tinker with it some more or just suck it up and shoot it as is.  I realize the AK is not a safe queen so I guess I will have to live with it's character. I just cant see spending $$ on a gunsmith for a gun that I just paid $500 for from a dealer.  Damn this sucks!

It looks to me like your gas block in canted which is throwing off the gas tube.

That's exactly what I think is wrong. The gas block isn't straight. That link isn't working, ya have anonther one for a fix?  Do you think installing an Ultimak top rail would be better then screwing with it?
