| I'm thinking about asking Santa for a WASR-10/63 underfolder for Christmas. My only concern is the cheekweld compared to the regualar fixed stock WASR. How big of a difference is there? |

The top one is the owner of Tac47 Industries, an AK wizard. He did the side folder conversion on my S12
Second guy is Raoul_Duke from Saiga-12.com, he's owns a variety of Tromix SBS's. He's got hippie hair for sure, but he's a clay pigeon shootin mofo with his 8" shorty Back on topic, I've shot underfolders and wire side folders and can't really decide which has a better cheekweld. Neither really has a good one IMO but the underfolder also never seems to seat right in the shoulder pocket, I think thats why a lot of people don't like them. I'm indifferent about either, I shoot ok with them but not as well as I do with a fixed or triangle folder. Underfolder wins on looks but the wire folder is more practical if you have a side rail and an optic mounted. I don't really see too many underfolders with a side rail, but I think the WASR has one if I'm not mistaken. Z |

I got both.
UFs are the shiz for cars and other enclosed spaces as well as general concealment. I wouldn't say that my Polish is as comfortable as my G is to shoot but the G won't fit in a duffel bag. I'll second the poster above re AKs being for short people. My G wears a Nato stock and a buttpad and I think it's still too short. |

I vote for fixed, but that's just me. I had a under folder and just could not get use shooting to it. How did it feel different? 1. It's a relatively thin metal piece instead of a relatively wide wood piece. It's not as comfortable against your cheek. 2. The UF stock bows out to clear the receiver which makes the stock wider than the wood stock. This puts your eye in a different position in relation to the sights, unless you cock your head. 3. As noted previously, the Romanian UF has more drop than the wood stock. IME this results in more muzzle rise when the rifle is fired because the axis of the bore (and the force of the recoil) is above the center of resistance (your shoulder). Some people do not like UF stocks and find them more difficult to shoot accurately. Your best bet is to try before you buy, if that's possible. |
| My chin was sore after shooting the yugo uf but then I wrapped it in paracord and that helps some. I get a good cheekweld on it but like someone else said - the rear of it doesnt seem to fit in my shoulder/chest just right. I have to keep adjusting it since its wider than a normal buttstock. That doesnt bother me enough to get rid of it though - I still enjoy it & shooting w/ the stock folded is fun :). |

Ok, I only have experience with fixed stocks and UF AK`s.
I have an M70 that I wrapped the UF stock in paracord. I dont have any problems with a cheek weld, and it is pretty comfortable to shoot. However, like others have mentioned, I do notice that because of the width at the butt of the stock it can be awkward to shoulder. Especially with heavy clothing or body armor on. I recently picked up a Wasr 10/63 and the fixed stock is very comfortable. I havent decided if I will put a Ace folder, or a Romanian side folder on it. I would love to have a triangle side folder, but I dont have the $ to buy another AK right now. I havent shot a Romy side folder, but i handled one. It seemed very awkward to get a cheek weld on for me. |

To be practical If you dont need to store your rifle in a small space then get the fixed stock.
I carry my romy G build with romy side folder in the side pouch of my AR15 rifle case and it works out very well but for function and practical use the fixed stock is better. The side folder or pretty nice but it doesnt shoulder as well a the fixed. If you want it just for the cool factor, thats a valid reason..more power to you but if your going to be shooting the thing alot and dont really have a use for the folder then i think you will be better of with the fixed |
