Polish For the guy who asked, it's a fairly standard AK cleaning kit that neatly fits in a trap door butt stock. Readily available as surplus for about $5 or less. Along with the rod, everything you need to clean and maintain an AK. The thread I got this picture from was a Gunbroker ad and said it was Polish. But I wanted to see if that could be confirmed. |

can the notch in the thing on the left be used to adjust the front sight? If you're talking about that flat screwdriver lookin' thingy, yes. But you can only adjust elevation, you need a special tool to adjust windage. Screwdriver/front sight tool. Fits into the slot in the can to make a handle. It sure helps but you can drift it with the jag (or a punch) and a rock (or a hammer). It's a set it and forget it operation. The little punch also cleans the gas port. |

The cap has two small holes on the sides 180 degrees apart. When you put the cap on the compensator and put the punch through the holes, the combination can be used as a wrench to remove a stuck compensator. All the cleaning kits that came with my Polish rifles have caps with those holes. |

Do you think tis would fare better against a stuck elevation adjustment? |

Do you think tis would fare better against a stuck elevation adjustment? They get stuck. Sometimes rusted, sometimes from refinishing. Use the usual methods, soak with penetrating oil, a little tap with a hammer, a little heat, etc. The kit tool works great and if you have a model with a trap door stock you should get one and carry it. For five bucks, you should get one anyway. The Tapco c-clamp tool is pretty beefy, works on both of my AKs. The plastic one they sell for SKS's isn't worth a damn. The FSP is a pretty cheap part to replace, so is the drum. My Polish has a tight post, My Romy has a very tight drum. Neither came with a cleaning kit. The Polish is an UF, so it would have been in a pouch anyway. |
