.........an AR15 in 7.62x39

Been considering one for a while, especially now with the CProducts mags available and new uppers on the market
I have three AK's and they're all flat out great boringly reliable shooters ( only probs have been Bakelite of waffle mag related )

I figure I should stick with .223 in the AR and leave the AK's for the Commie Caliber but I still got the itch

A Robinson XCR in 7.62x39 will be much more reliable, I've got a 12" 7.62x39 caliber conversion for my .223 XCR, it runs better than my AK's with less recoil and much better ergonomics

I think the caliber is better than a 5.56 but I would be concerned with magazine availability with 7.62 X 39 AR-15s....................

I have no experience with them, but I thought the AR's in 7.62X39 had issues....

If your trying to get away from "boringly reliable shooters" and add some "excitement" to your life, an AR in 7.62x39 should do the trick.

If I could, I'd make that sig-line material..........

I heard the problem with them feeding reliably is that the AR has a much taller, straight mag well, and a 7.62x39 cartridge needs the curvature (which will not work in an AR mag well) to feed reliably.

Don't quote me on that though. It's just what I have read.

I've been thinking about a x39 AR myself.  Theres a section on this in the "various calibers" AR-15 section.  From what I gather, get one of the better bolts and the newest version of C-Products magazines and you are good to go.

Hartz, you wouldn't happen to have a picture of your 12" XCR would you?  Also, can you fire that with the stock folded?
Thanks

Alex Robinson blindly supported Mitt Romney last year.

Mitt Romney blindly supported banning firearms "of exceptional lethality" like AK's and AR's.

When Alex Robinson was informed of this, he basically said in no uncertain terms that Romney is a Mormon, Robinson is a Mormon, therefore Robinson will support Romney no matter what.

You'd think an educated man like Robinson would see the very serious flaw in his logic, and understand why so many people refuse to do business with him now.

I've got an old Colt Sporter in 7.62x39. Have had it since well before the idiotic Klinton AWB legislation kicked in. It's digested well over 10K rds of cheap surplus ammo so far.  Mine is not exceptionally accurate. On the order of 2" 50 yd groups and 4-5 inch at 100 yds.

Magazines are THE issue with this ctg in an AR.  An AR 5.56 mag does not have enough "curve" to reliably feed the 7.62 ctg which has far more body taper than the relatively straight 5.56 mm ctg.

Back in 1993 or 94 I found a company that took a steel AK mag, cut the top off, then welded it to a steel AR mag top. They were called "FrankenMags" on the forums. I can recall buying four or five...... two worked FLAWLESSLY...sent the rest back. they were not cheap either. Have not seen the mags for sale again.

Recently bought one of the new C-Products 7.62x39 mags....haven't played with it yet though.

Too busy shooting cheap 5.45x39 ammo through my S&W AR upper. My four  C-Products 5.45 mags work about 99%.
There is a Gentleman on the AR side of this forum who markets a 5.45 FOLLOWER that is supposed to allow the C-Products 5.45 mags to feed flawlessly. Waiting for four of those to arrive......will install and test ASAP.

It'll be cheaper on ammo, no doubt.  But why switch to a caliber that's inherently less accurate?  I'll leave the 7.62 for my AK's to digest and stick with 5.56 in my AR...

Ugly or not, there's no need to insult the man and tell him his rifle looks disgusting.

m193 5.56 is far more effective than russian .30.  Why would you change to a less effective round?

if i were to go to a bigger caliber in the ar i would get 6.5 grendal, 6.8SPC or the .50 beuwolf!

I would never get one in 7.62x39, the only reason i can see that is to get cheap ammo, but i already have ak's for that so i keep my ar15's in 5.56 and the above calibers along with .308.

And for the guy that said the XCR is ugly, i dont, I want one. I dont see much of them though and if one was in my local shop id probly get it. Does anyone know a price on them?

Was told by a guy that owns one, it would not reliably fire 7.62X39 milsurp. Had lots of light firing pin strikes.

Actually, it's a slang compliment:

I agree that the rifle is groovy and hawt
