What is the recommended way to sight in an AK (7.62)  Is it: Put sight to 'battle sight" (all the way back) and for the 7.62 is the 50 yard method best??  Thanks guys.

If you want to use the sights the way they were designed to be used, zero the rifle at 100 meters or yards with the rear sight set at 1.
The battle sight setting is the same as the 300m setting. It is designed to allow you to get hits on a torso sized target from point blank to 300m without changing the sight.

POLYTHENEPAM:  Do you mean '1' or the 'D' battle sight for the initial sight in ?–– thanks.

Set the sight at "1" which is the 100m setting.

POLYTHENEPAM: Thanks again.  On AK47 internet sight, they say same as you do except that instead of your target at 100 yds it's at 25yds which they claim will hit man size from 0-400yds when you set on battle sight!?  Is there an explaination for the range difference?

Many people who post on the innernet about zeroing an AK at short range seem never to have fired the rifle at any distance past 50 or 100 yards.
The 7.62x39 cartridge isn't particularly "flat shooting". The bullet will drop about 42 inches from the 100m POA at 400m. In other words, the man sized target those people are shooting at better be a TALL man sized target.
What's worse is that 25 yards doesn't necessarily give you an accurate zero and as someone else posted, any small error at 25 yards is 4 times larger at 100 yards, 8 times larger at 200 yards ...
Shooting at 25 yards gives people a warm fuzzy feeling because at that range the groups are small, but if you wish to use the sights as they were designed to be used, you have to zero the rifle the way it was designed to be zeroed - at 100 m.

As soon as my grandson sleeps I'm off to the range and will use the 100m sight in method (everything you've pointed out makes good sense, so I thank you for taking the time –– Hooshier (spelling?) have a good one –– from an old usless nut (Buckeye –– go Bucks!)
