First of all let me say I know nothing about AK's & what little I do know has mostly comes from here.
I just bought an AK74, or something similar & I'd like to know something about it. The barrel is just a little over 16" & has the 24mm compensator threads. The comp itself is marked with a red US & is chromed internally. It appears to have two bayonet lugs, one on the gas block & one on the FSB. They're drilled for the cleaning rod. The front or barrel trunnion is marked with a double circle with a 10 inside it I assume this means it's Bulgarian built. The receiver is a NDS which is marked TGI Knox, TN. I assume the company who built it from a parts kits. The stock really doesn't match the upper & lower hand guards. It might be Birch or some other light fine grain wood. It has groves on either side & a sling swivel in the left side. The bolt carrier & bolt appear to be etched with an electric impact engraver with the four digits of the serial number. The barrel bore & chamber are chromed. All the metal appears to be painted except for the receiver & maybe the dust cover, which are parked. I've been wanting an AK for quite awhile & to be real honest, this was an impulse purchase. Can anybody tell me about this rig? I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but have spent some hours cleaning it. The guy I bought it from didn't seem to like doing that job much at all. Thanks, sorry no pics |

It may be of some assistance to you to know that unless you shoot corrosive surplus ammunition, cleaning an AK is optional. he forgot the key thing...shooting small amounts of ammo..... it wil need to be cleaned at some point....in the next 20 years.... jk |

I am familiar enough with the AK to know that unless you've got a rock or a tree branch stuck inside the action, it ought to
function just fine. Along with the AK I got 700rds of some kinda steel cased military ammo. All I can see is that it's got "539" on top & "73" below that for a head stamp. I also got three mags. One is a ProMag, which he said he had problems with & the other two are flat sided polymers, again with the double circle 10 markings. Locally I picked up four quite used steel mags for it, no markings on them at all. I thought the price was high, but they are very heavy duty. I doubt if you could damage either type of mag unless it was intentional. |
