I had been wanting to have an AK105 clone built for the longest time, so after initially sending one of my SLR105s off to Chris Butler for a side folder install, I decided to have him do the AK105 conversion instead.  I got this rifle back a few days ago and was out to the range with it today.  I got the irons and optic sighted in and was able to consistently shoot 1 inch groups at 50 yards.  Chris did an awesome job on the build and re-finish.  The rifle is solid with almost no recoil at all.  Parts include a Bulgarian FSB, AKUSA extended brake, Saiga top cover, Russian 5.5mm side folder, repro 500 meter rear sight, PK23 optic, Russian OTK sling and Hogue grip.  The current brake on there now is pinned/welded but I had Chris install the FSB detent and spring, so as soon as I move out of Washingtonia I will be going the SBR route with this.

very nice! I talked to Chris about building one for me too a while back, and then I decided on a 107CR. I still plan to send him my 107CR to cut and crown my barrel, I'll prob have him refinish it also while there.

Nice!  What finish did you have him use?

I'm not really sure what it's called but it's the premium finish that AKUSA offers.  Chris told me that it's a fairly elaborate finishing process to get a gun done like this and the results are pretty awesome.  I was never really someone that would get hung up on having a perfect finish on a gun because I like to shoot them, but I will say that this finish is much better than the original Arsenal spray paint that was on it before.

Chris's premium finish is the shizzle! My buddy has it on his SBR and runs courses with it a lot. There's some wear, but it's tough as nails

Chris is awesome and I would consider his prices fair for the quality of the work he does.  I spoke with him several times over the phone during the course of this build and he was always courteous, professional and very knowlegeable.  I would recommend him to anyone that is looking for a quality AK smith.  Also, thanks to fourtfourmag for getting me pointed in Chris's direction when I was researching this project.

You know, I was thinking of an AK-103, but man, that is a bad looking rifle.

Great piece.

I've already got an AK47, 74, 101, and 102. hopefully I'll start building my 105 and S74U next week... The 102/105 has got to be my favorite firearm to date.

Thanks for the positive comments.  After having had this for a while now, I'm really starting to think I want an AK104 to go along with it.  Guess I'll have to start looking for an SLR-107 at a good price that I can send to Chris and have him work on...

See my above comment on this. Get a 107CR. One just sold on the EE for $900. A good deal. I picked my up a while ago for $950. Go CR route and you wont have to scrounge for parts.

Roger that nictra, that's the model I'm looking for.  I'd probably buy one today if I could find one at that price and then I could sell off the extra poly side folder assembly that I've been hanging on to.
