I am new to AK's.  I have an old WASR10, and would like to know if the bolt carrier should lock back after the last round has been fired and the magazine is empty?  Or should it return to battery?

Thanks,
Monkey

no bho on aks, simple is simple does.

(however some mags(yugo) have followers that will hole the bolt back, but once you take the mag out...)

Nope, no bolt hold open on AKs.

If you need to hold the bolt open because of range rules, use one of these: http://www.creedmoorsports.com/store/product.php?productid=16327

the only BHO I know of on an AK is the M-64 and they had notched mags also..some have notched selector levers to hold the bolt open but ya have to do it manually.the yugos have a mag that did it for ya but if ya cleared the mag the bolt would slam home.

Thanks guys.
I posted this in the cleaning and maintenance section, but haven't received any responses, so I'll post it here and see what happens.

When i clean my AK the bulk patches that I use to wipe down the inside of the receiver always come out a light brown/redish color. Is that rust? What can I do to take care of it. I was thinking about completely stripping it and doing something to remove the rust. Can you guys provide me with a link for a complete dis assembly and a suggestion for removing that rust?

Thanks,

Might be old cosmoline, old oil residue, or light corrosion.  Hard to know without seeing it.

I would give it a bath or pour hot soapy water, dry it then wipe it down in oil..most likely it is a combo of cosmo and some light rust setting in.not much to take the wood off and clean up the metal..get a good spray on oil so it can penetrate the nooks and crannys.once ya have it clean it should be easy from there to keep it maintained..

Probably cosmoline, if you don't soak or melt it out it will seep out of every crevice forever. It has a reddish brown color as well.

I agree that the brown stuff is most likely preservative oil. Just use CLP or Ballistol and clean everything. Eventually you'll get it all. BSW
