Just came across an ad in a magazine for a "completely American made" "Modeled after the famous AK-47 design" carbine.
I don't know anything about it but thought it was interesting and remembered some people asking about 100% USA made AKs. MSRP is $620 (about the price of a Ruger Mini or Marlin 45/70 lever gun) The website is supposed to be www.ioinc.us but when I went there most of the site was broken in firefox (didn't check IE) Sorry in advance if this was brought up and I missed it. Did a quick look around and search but didn't find anything posted |

G kit w/ US complaince parts, keep in mind that the receiver is US made and does not mean its a US made rifle.
This pix may help
Edit: G kit is a Romanian parts kit Wow this company is on crack Lookie here link

Thought it might just the way the add was trying to make it sound, that's why I put everything in quotes. With the features list you showed it's easy to see it's just another compliant AK with US made barrel. I guess they can't import the barrels anymore? Think I read something about that.
Thanks for the info! By the way, looking at the couple of photos I found online, the fit and finish doesn't look all that great on these. |

I have the IO AK and found the fit and finish to be very good.
http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showt...3&highlight=ioi http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44507 Another Links: http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/ak-47-...ce-ak-47-a.html http://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?t=11208 For $550-$600 OTD, its a pretty good value and requires NO modifications at all. Unlike a WASR with its various canted sights, need to refinish the furniture, etc... the IO Ak-47's are ready to go right out of the box. I've been able to fit all sorts of mags w/o any wobble issues. It shoots straight and goes bang every time. I can throw any sort of option on it w/o any worries about Section 922(r). Traditionalists don't like the Tapco Galil grip and the black parts. IO does sell a version w/ the wood furniture, you just have to call them direct. As far as parts are concerned. Most have receivers made by RPG Arms of TX (formerly ERTD). The barrels are by Mossberg, the FCG by Tapco, stock and grip are IO's own type, slant brake by Tapco, and the interior parts are rumored to be Romanian. Its just that all the markings have been milled off so there's no way to tell ;). RPG Arms sells their own brand of rifles using their own receiver that look exactly the same as the IO ones. Quite a number of folks have this gun and have been very satisfied with it. I compared it to a WASR 10/32 at my local gun store and found fit and finish to be a lot better than the WASR. Given a choice, I picked up the IO for about $577 OTD. Given the outrageous price of even a simple WASR these days, the IO is a great AK for the money. |
| I have an STG style AK in .223 from IO, and while its nothing fancy, it works just fine, and is better finished than any WASR Ive seen. The furniture included on that gun is all American, and kinda cheapy, but I guess thats part of their "USA made" angle. I'm sure theres nothing wrong with the gun, but I have a feeling you could find a normal WASR for a lil less. |

The STG model is DIFFERENT from the 47C. I bought this one back in October - It has an Elk River receiver. I changed the furniture too. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v503/AKsrule/IOAK.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v503/AKsrule/IOAK2.jpg Thats a very nice Rifle |

I didn't mean to get under anyone's skin about the fit and finish. I've only looked at photos but you can see plenty of mill marks and rough edges. Doesn't mean it's not a good rifle. Yea it may be better than a WASR but that's not saying much. I have a WASR and I love it but I don't think you can say it really has much for aesthetics.
EDIT: And my WASR was half that price. |
