Is this normal? Received an AK today and pulled the charging handle with the selector up and it went up even further. My other AK's do not do this so I was curious.

The top cover is supposed to keep it from doing that. Something is bent probably. If the selector is tight against the receiver then I'd say the top cover has some kind of issue

Be Careful! Yugo variants are known to trip the trigger and fire when the safety lever is raised like that. If that happens when there is a round in the pipe, you could have a big problem.

That is exactly what it did. There was not a round in the chamber.

You're not supposed to try and pull the operating handle all the way to the rear with the safety on.
That being said, the top cover should prevent the safety from moving up that far.

Ah, that's what happened. My charging handle pushes the selector out if I pull it back real hard. That could push it out past the top cover. Mine doesn't but I can see how it could

I know this. However, assuming I mistakenly attempt to charge it with the selector up you would think it would stop it and not rotate up and trip the trigger.

Bend the top cover out a little more until the selector can't pop out past it

It was the dust cover. I tried another one and all is good.

Your first post noted that the problem does not occur with your other AKs. I felt it best to point out that your not supposed to try and charge the rifle with the safety on. I guess you've just mistakenly tried to charge several rifles with the safety on.

The rifle came with significant wwear on the dust cover. I was trying to figure out what had caused this. When I noticed it did this, I tried it on my other AK's. Either way we both agree that it still should not do this.
