I saw at a gun shop an AK in .22LR. It had a 5.56 stamped on the mag. but was converted to a .22LR with a plastic block.
I thought about purchasing it and trying to convert it back to 5.56. Is this possible? And if so is it an expense project? Can you find part these parts? All I remember about the receiver is it had WASR stamped on it. |

There are several threads in the Romanian section about the WASR 22 and other 22 variants made by Cugir. If you enjoy shooting the AK but can't afford to shoot centerfire all that much these are an option. I have an AKT 98, the first version imported. These are real AK's built on Romanian receivers and take almost all the AK accessories. I would not buy the Armi Jager/Mitchell Arms or Armscorp AK because they seem to be cheaply made and aren't real AK's IMHO. There is a high capacity mag made by Black Dog Machine for the WASR 22. This is a good mag and holds about 30 rounds. This is my opinion but you asked. There are a lot of WASR 22/AKT 98 pictures in the Romanian thread and gives you an idea what you can do with these little blasters. I don't plan on getting rid of mine. They sure attract a lot of attention when your shooting them at the range. Mine is pretty accurate as I can hit a steel bowling pin off hand at 100 plus yards at ease. I use mine to shoot steel plates and plinking. The plates I shoot at are to thin for centerfire but lots of fun with the rimfire.

I think I'm going to get a .223. It's the same caliber as my ARs. It kind of makes sense. Are the 5.45 mags easier to come by? What are the benefits of 5.45?
And I did buy the WASR 22. Some thing to play with for the time being until I decide on which other AK to buy. I started a thread on that here |
