Ive got a TG imported FPK and was wondering if the entire gun is imported or if it is assembled with a parts kit and subject to 922.
I live in CT and all AK varients in 7.62x39 are banned but we can have them in any other caliber. (12 guage, .308 5.56, 5.45)
has anyone ever cut down an fpk, added a pistol grip and modified the reciever to fit a larger capacity magazine(rpk mag?) im guessing this would remove the "sporting purpose" and would require compliance parts. also mine has a chrome chamber i was wondering if anyone knows if the bores are also chromed. what kind of accuracy can i expect with bulgarian 147 grain ball? i bought a crate but havent shot any of it yet. it did not come with the pso style scope so i bought one put it on.i wasnt hitting my target so i gave up on it for the time being. your input would be appreciated. |

The entire gun is imported.
Never cut it down, but Im sure you would need to throw on some complience parts for it. Yes the bore and chamber are chrome lined. I think most people will agree to around 4-6 moa. Some being as good as 2-4 if you use some better ammo like 7n1. |

Is this the same gun? http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/beta/storeproduct545.aspx Are all commercial FPK's the same, no matter which company imports them? I have always wanted one of these |

Some are assembled from a parts kit, but most are imported complete. I live in CT and all AK varients in 7.62x39 are banned but we can have them in any other caliber. (12 guage, .308 5.56, 5.45)
has anyone ever cut down an fpk, added a pistol grip and modified the reciever to fit a larger capacity magazine(rpk mag?) RPKs us 7.62x39 which is a much shorter cartridge than the 7.62x54R. There is no "higher capacity magazine" for 7.62x54R. The reciever will not accept a regular stock, you'd have to either custom make a stock or do some serious cutting and welding on the back of the receiver. im guessing this would remove the "sporting purpose" and would require compliance parts. also mine has a chrome chamber i was wondering if anyone knows if the bores are also chromed. Yep. what kind of accuracy can i expect with bulgarian 147 grain ball? 4ish MOA, maybe less, probably not much more. i bought a crate but havent shot any of it yet. it did not come with the pso style scope so i bought one put it on.i wasnt hitting my target so i gave up on it for the time being. Were you not able to get it zeroed? your input would be appreciated. The rifle you're reffering to is actually called a "PSL". I don't know why they called them an "FPK". If you want a .30 caliber AK and can't have a 7.62x39, I suggest you look into a Saiga .308 with 25 round mags. |

thanks for the replies, i forgot about this post i only shot about 60 rounds thru it because my first surplus bag of ammo was light ball and i was using the barska scope that came on it. then i read not to shoot med or heavy ball because the reciever could crack. i bought some more and was told when i asked if it was light ball but turned out to be medium after i noticed more recoil and pulled a bullet so i stoped. i was shooting at an 8" round target and did not try to systematicly zero it with the new light ball ammo. im going to try again when i get some good weather. the scope is not 1/4 or 1/8 moa adjustable. there are only 1 moa(i think) windage 10 clicks and 100 meter bullet drop to 1000 meters so fine tuning has to be done with the mount itself. |

The heavier bullets do "batter" the reciever somewhat, but it's going to take a lot of rounds downrange before it becomes a problem. They don't come with Barska scopes, if that's what your dealer gave you with it, it's not the right scope. They come with a Romanian PSO type optic originally made by IOR Valdada. There is no such thing as "medium ball". There is only light and heavy. Generally, heavy ball has a yellow or yellow-over-silver tip. Generally, not always. i was shooting at an 8" round target and did not try to systematicly zero it with the new light ball ammo. Yeah, you're not going to hit anything if you don't zero the scope. im going to try again when i get some good weather. the scope is not 1/4 or 1/8 moa adjustable. there are only 1 moa(i think) windage 10 clicks and 100 meter bullet drop to 1000 meters so fine tuning has to be done with the mount itself. That sounds like the Romanian scope, not a Barska scope. Anyway, if it is the Romanian, the adjustments are not done with the mount. You loosen the screws on the dials and this allows you to turn the top of the dial without moving the elevation and windage cams. Set the elevation cam to "1" and set the windage dial to it's middle or zero setting, then loosen the screws, then zero the rifle AT 100 YARDS (or preferably meters) like you normally would. The vertical lines at the edge of the upper dials are about 1 MOA. Then lock the dials back down, you're done. Now your elevation turret should work as intended. |
