I am converting my Romanian PAR-1 pump into a semi auto but I need a new Romy barrel assembly to do so. All I can find is one that has a gas bock, handguard retainer, and rear sight block BUT no front sight base installed. If I were to buy a sight base separately, how would I go about installing it? Can a Joe Blow like me do it?

Plus, this barrel assembly also has no rear sight leaf. Is that easy to install as well? Or should I continue looking for a barrel assembly that already has these features installed. I've been looking for something better but I am having trouble.

Thanks,
Andrew

Send the barrel to the pro.

the front sight base inside diameter needs to be .001" smaller than the barrel diameter.  I use an air hammer with a brass tip to start it, then a cut off section of pipe to drive it over the threads.

I like to testfire for zero before drilling the pin holes.  Sometimes top dead center doesn't mean it will shoot point of aim, and I like to keep the post centered.

When you are test firing to zero the sight, can the base be easily maneuvered for a proper alignment or is it tough due to it's snug fit?

thats the point of an interference fit - iof its too loose, then I use soft solder 400 F to hold in place - also keeps sight from shifting while drilling the pin holes.

I received a new barrel assembly yesterday and it already has the pin holes drilled from an existing FSB. When I install the new FSB, is there any guarantee that using the existing pin holes as a reference will give me an accurate point of aim. Or will using this different part require me to do some adjusting of my own?

"new" barrels don't come with any holes in them.  It may have been demilled from a new rifle.

Chances are that the holes will NOT line up.  The FSB (depending on manufacture) may have indicator holes already in it, but they don't get drilled through the barrel until after mounting.  while they may be in the exact same spot, it is just as likely they won't be.

The surest think to do is solder the holes in and drill them fresh.

You can also give it a try and if they are only slightly off, then use a pin larger than the standard 3mm.

Are you sure you need to replace the whole barrel assembly? I'd swear I've read of others that have converted those without replacing the barrels.

You're right, you don't necessarily need to replace the barrel assembly. In fact, I had originally altered the original barrel assembly to function as a semi auto but frankly, I just wasn't happy with the final product so now its on to plan B.

Yeah, I guess new was the wrong word to use here. Its actually a barrel assembly from a Romy G kit.

So if I'm lucky, it will require no work, but realistically, it looks like I will need to do some drilling
