I was experiencing problems with my M92, namely loose lower handguard.  At first I was thinking I would just remove the FSB/GB, change out the retainer, and be done with it.  Well, there was not enough room between the retainer and FSB/GB to set it up in the press for removal, so I started considering the Samson rail system.

I wanted to know if it would be possible to install the rail without using the handguard retainer––it looks like it, as there's a block that attaches to the barrel, then the rails attach to that block.  But I figured I'd email Samson and ask just to be sure.

My original email:

I was wondering if the handguard retainer is required for attachment of your rail system on the M92 Krinkov rifles.

I have an M92, and have noticed that the lower handguard is quite loose and rattles around a good bit, and have traced this to the retainer apparently being, for lack of a better word, "boogered" a bit. That's a technical term I learned on theakforum.net, btw. :)

Apparently the retaining lever (or rather the pin to which it's attached) is mucked up and at this point I'd be looking at necessitating replacement of the retainer itself.

However, I'm heavily considering upgrading to your rail system on my rifle anyway, and if the retainer is just kind of "there" on the barrel without serving any sort of purpose toward retention on the rail system, I may just go ahead and remove it completely.

Thanks for any insight you can provide!

This is Samson's reply:

Hello
You want to Model 2 for the M92

Thanks
Scott

Now I could be wrong, but I figured I was explaining the problem pretty clearly.

So is Scott on some seriously awesome drugs, or does he just completely suck donkey dick at reading comprehension?

I guess his complete inability to answer a question I figured was fairly simple and straightforward––namely, "Is the handguard retainer required for proper installation of your M92 rail system?"––just solidifies that I won't be doing business with Samson.  Not now, not ever.

What a tool.

(On a side note, I've since punched out the retainer lever and found it to be bent like a mofo––so I'm going to just order a new lever from K-var and see how that works to sort out the issue.  cheapest fix first, I suppose )

Do tell, what type of response would you expect from someone if you asked them a question?  Would you expect them to read three characters in the subject line and form an answer from that, or would you prefer them to actually look at what you're asking and answer that way?

Unless what he said is code for something, in which case by all means––let me in on the secret.

Maybe they have too much business already and didn't feel the need to answer your question.

So did you email them again and clarify your question, or did you just make this assumption  based on this? Try it again and then see what they say. Don't shoot first and ask questions later, no pun intended.

If the rail system needs the retainer, then thats fine, since you seem to know how to fix it. If it  doesn't, thats fine too, just take it off (or leave it if possible).

I did email back, and no response.

Pretty sure you're missing the point by a mile on this one.  The point of me asking was because if it requires the retainer, i'm not dropping the coin on it when I have to replace the retainer anyway (and will end up using ironwood handguards).  If the retainer isn't required, because of the labor involved (and the fact the FSB/GB doesn't want to come off no matter what I try), i'd be willing to spring for the samson unit to make life easier.

It's one or the other, not be out almost 300 bucks and hope for the best.

No, I can still pretty much take care of that on my own.  Taking 3 minutes out of his apparently extremely busy workload to properly answer a question instead of looking like a retard might be a more appropriate way to describe my expectations.

Apparently they're a bit high.

It does not matter how busy he is, the guy should answer your question.
A happy customer will bring more customers to you.

I say send the damn thing back and get a refund.

Funny corny.

I wish you luck with this, Sampson is really busy and while he should have done a better job, perhaps you could cut him some slack a wait a tic for a better response. I'm with you in the annoyance department, but i think at this juncture we may be looking at extenuating circumstances.

I'm sure they are crazy busy.  But if the dude (apparnetly heavily medicated) took the time to reply he shoulda actually answered the question.

The front retainer is not required to install the Samson M92 rail.
