I just picked up my first AK last week. I got my hands on the last WASR 10/63 they had at a local shop for $450. What I would like to know is, how do you say WASR. Do you say the letters like you would AR? Or do you say it as if it were a word, like wah-ser? I’m sure some of you are laughing your buts off right now and shaking your head and that’s O.K. I just don’t want to sound stupid when talking about my new gun!

but I was laughed at for pronouncing Saiga as 'sigh-guh', apparently its 'say-guh'.

saiga is pronounced "sah-ga". Look up the russian youtube commercial for iszmash (sp?)

Closer to "sigh guh" than "say guh". More like "sah ee guh" with the "ah ee" run together.

Most funshops know less than you about AKs.

The best funstore in the Gulf Coast told me that Vectors were fully American Made.

I have always just said WASR as each letter. I dont think I have heard it differently.

As per the SAIGA. I always heard 'Say-Ja" at the few shows where factory reps were.
I have heard all the other versions also. Maybe that one is a "regional" variation(?)

Saiga is pronounced close to Sigh guh. its certainly not saiga .

I have always said "Was-er", and everyone knew what I was talking about without laughing or grinning... Think thats the way to go.
