the gp 1975 is built on a US receiver with a new US barrel.....as opposed to the WASR being a romanian reciever and barrel.  The gp 1975 uses the romanian G code parts also.  I have both of these guns.  The gp 1975 is an awesome gun...very light and the rifle was dead nuts on right out of the box.  The particular WASR I have is just as good also.  If you can get the GP below $500 i'd say get it instead of the WASR...WASR's are going for around $400-450 nowadays anyway.

Here is my GP 1975

I would recommend both guns....

Does anyone know if the US barrel on the GP1975 is a .308 or a .311 bore?
