| Can JB weld be used to attach a Vortex flash hider on a AK, thanks. |
|
If you pinned it, and used JB weld to cover the pin, you would probably be good to go, but I am not an ATF agent, and did not stay at a holiday inn last night. If you are going to use the JB weld to just attach it, find yourself a good auto welder or someone else in the area and just have them put a tac-weld or spot weld on it. I did that with one of my AR's that was cut down to 15" and had the A2 welded on with a stick welder. The big 1/4 spot of metal leaves no question that it's perm attached, and it's on the bottom of the barrel where pretty much nobody sees it.

Here's how I did it before the ban sunset. I drilled a hole in the muzzle brake and half way into the barrel (just to make a dimple). Then I threaded it with a tap, and installed a screw, tightening it down as tight as I could without stripping the threads. I used a dremel to grind down the screw, and just to be safe I spot welded over it and filed it down flush. You could simply JB weld screw in place before grinding it down and maybe be ok. No way in hell that thing is coming off without drilling it out. |

If done right, JB Weld will hold, although I doubt it is the legal method. If you went over and refinished it, no one would be able to tell the difference between that and a tack-weld. I am not suggesting this however. My brother used JB Weld to plug a hole in a motorcycle engine, and it's still holding to this day, 20 years later. |

For the original poster's question, JB Weld will definately not work for legality. Pinned, tacked, welded will. But I can speak from experience and perhaps it's just me, but the JB Weld fix I did to an unthreaded muzzle and a slant flash hider have worked great since it was done a few years ago. The rifle has had 10-12 magazines through it that I know of over that time and no issues. |

If i remember correctly some company was using JB weld on SSR 85s' muzzle brakes. Alot of people were reporting their slant brake just falling off. I am not saying that whom ever used the JB weld originally used it correctly and prepp'ed the rifle correctly either. I have used JB weld to correct Mag wobble with great success for my old WASRs. |
I did the same thing with a 16" MaK-90. I just wanted a slant break on it. I have dumped multiple mags through it during bump fire sessions. (yea, I had a problem when I was younger and ammo was cheap). As far as being legal for bringing your barrel up to length? "NO" Do a little research and you will find info on doing it yourself with common household tools. Will it come off? "NO", if you roughen up the barrel with a grinder. Do I recommend it? "NO". Now it is stuck on there and it is pointless to try to deban it. Sucks? "YES". |
