I have a slant cut muzz break on my AK. I have heard good things about the AK74 style. What is the best muzz break for a 7.62 AK

In semi-auto, no AK style muzzle brake is really that effective.
Between the slant brake and the AK-74 style, the 74 is most effective.

The American-made 74 style brakes are more on the order of "look-alikes" and don't work as well as the real AK-74 brake.
The real 74 brakes have a big expansion chamber, port holes and forward gas escape slots that make it very effective on the 5.45 and 5.56 rifles it's made for.

The American replicas are made for the 7.62 and don't have the same design as the original.
They do work, but not as well as the original, and as above, you won't notice that much effect in semi-auto.

Bottom line, since none of them work all that well, pick the muzzle attachment you like the looks of the best.

I've got one of the K-Var 7.62 brakes on my SLR107FR. It makes a difference in both muzzle rise and recoil vs either the flash-hider or the thread protector. Louder too. BSW

EG brake with zig-zag cuts.
