I have recently purchased an East German Wire style folder and was wandering if anyone has installed one. I have a Chinese Polytech AKS that I want to take and swap out the fixed wooden stock with the folder. It doesn't appear that any modifications to the trunion or rear of the receiver will be necessary...however, because I haven't done this before I wanted to get a second opinion. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help. |
| You may have to fit the stock some using a file. No modification to the rifle itself should be done. The stock was made for 1mm sheet metal receivers, your Polytech is 1.6mm. It may fit tight, which is perfectly fine, or it may be a tad to wide to slide into th receiver. No big deal but resale value of the stock may go down if you start removing metal from it. |

Thanks....do you know if I can find instructional information or schematics/nomenclature for the folder? I ordered it online from a private seller who bought it online himself and has limited knowledge. It has three separate parts (lever/with small round nut, insert, and clamp) aside from the folder assembly itself. Thanks again. |
| If I remember correctly, some of the East German folders had the lever, not the push-button. I think this is the stock you are referring to and these are quite different than the push-button style Romanian stock. These must be assembled before mounting them on the rifle. I've never put one on a rifle, but I know this is the case. Maybe someone else will chime in and help out. There may also be a slight difference in the spacing of the holes for the screws that hold the stock in place. Seems that someone once posted that the Chinese tang screws are farther apart than the Romanian/East German or vice-versa. But I do KNOW that these stocks can be made to fit on a Chinese gun, I've seen pics of them before. |

that thing was permanent and really didn't need screws! only one hole lines up. 6mm if i remember correctly.
