I have a Saiga 12 and would love to turn it into a AOW. has anyone ever done this kinda work? as far as I can tell its reciever is a bit different than the standard AK reciever in the fron trunion area.

What say you oh great darkside?

Any other Weapon (AOW) is more of a general NFA term referring to any firearm that doesn't fit into main general categories of firearms. What "specific" set up do you have in mind?

I know that AK pistols can be SBR'd and thus converted into rifles, but I don't believe it's allowed the other way around.

Plus, I believe that a $5 AOW stamp can only be transferred, rather than manufactured as with a Form 1.

You may want to decide what "specific" conversion you want to do, then post your question/idea on the NFA section of the forum.

he wants a short barreled shotgun, and lots have been done.  Tromix for one is probably the best known, but lots of guys should be able to do it.  Try redjacket in LA

if not a sbs clarify what you want.

sounds like what you are trying to do would be a short barrel shotgun, which would incur the $200 tax- not the $5 AOW stamp.

If you start w/ an existing Saiga 12 your only choice is going to be a SBS since it already has a stock on it.  You could conceiveably start strip the parts off your receiver, put it on a new receiver w/o the buttstock, and make an AOW out of it, but the cost to make an AOW on a F1 is the same $200 as a SBS.

OK, I want a SBS but the fucked up state of WA has a ban on them, they however DO NOT ban the AOW...

for an AOW to be legal in WA the firearm must never have had a stock installed on it. So If I can get a new 12GA reciever... I could transplant the parts onto the AK reciever and shorten the barrel up, while having a pistol rear trunion. and have a 12ga pistol legally...

does it make sence now?  So

It makes sense, but where would you get a virgin receiver? Don't think they are available.

They're not.

You can buy virgin AK receivers for under $100.  I don't know how much work you will have to do to make a Saiga 12 fit in one.

couldnt you just install a folding stock!?

As to fitting the reciever - the only difference should be the magwell.

The trunnion/rivet arrangement is totally different at the bare minimum.

An AOW can not ever of had a stock on the firearm for it to be turned into a AOW. If it has had a stock it fits the definition of a SBS, whereas a shotgun sold without a stock and never had a stock on it, has never fit the definition of a shotgun.

so he needs to buy an ak pistol and install the saiga 12 parts into the reciever? (or a virgin one)
