And aside from these two factors, AK's in general have simply become more popular in recent years.  So in essence, there are more people, chasing a declining supply of rifles.  To be sure, I never thought I'd see the day when an increasing number of dealers are even out of WASR-10's!

And AK-74, or 5.45mm rifles, are even more scarce because there was never a large U.S. market for those rifles to begin with.  They have surged in popularity only recently, when the importation of relatively cheap surplus ammo made 5.45 rifles a heck of a lot cheaper to shoot than 7.62x39 and especially 5.56 rifles.

As for me, I sold my ORF Bulgy 74 a couple months ago, and now regret it.  I was recently thinking of selling my Interarms Tantal too (which is actually nicer than my ORF 74 was).  But seeing what has happened to the AK market in recent months, I'm going to hold onto the Tantal for now.

And as for what the future holds for the AK market, that is anyone's guess.  We could just be experiencing a temporary hicc-up in the market right now.  Or (and I hope this isn't true), the days of being able to easily buy a relatively inexpensive AK rifle could be nearing an end.

Thanks. Do you know where to buy an interarms tantal?

And what is EE? Neither me or google know this.

I'll let one of my 2 go for $1,000 AK-74 build/SLR-105.  Phreakmode got the only inexpensive one I had.

Check the EE for others, there is a SAR-2 there right now.

Your best bet is to find a SAR 2, usually 2 or 3 show up for sale here every month. ORF rifles are good, Arsenal SLR105 will cost you a very important part of your anatomy to aquire. Other than that, buy a AKS-74 kit from ORF or RGuns and a NDS reciever, send it off to Overland Ind. or another build and have them squish some rivets for you.

She went through some pretty tramatic surgery recognise the ol girl?

The comp that was on there was actually 1/2x28, with almost an entire inch of the barrel threaded. Kinda surprised me when I heated it off, maybe I can put it on an AR . Has a bulgarian FSB on it now.

This is how the SAR-2 looked before Phreakmode got his hands on it.  He probably has the market cornered on 5.45x39 rifles.

This is the SLR-105R that I have.  It actually has one of the Bulgarian flash hiders on it now.

Which Tantal did you ask Atlantic about?  I bought one of the black poly models just last week.  They might have more of those in stock since they're less popular than the sidefolders (though I prefer them).

As far as backorder time goes at Atlantic, I doubt that it matters whether you choose the fixed or folding stock.  That’s because, with the exception of the stock, it’s the exact same rifle.

I also bought one of the black poly Tantals from Atlantic, about a year ago. (I also prefer the fixed stock.)  It took about a month from the time I ordered it until I got it, and like I said…that was about a year ago.  I wouldn’t be surprised if wait times now are significantly longer.

But if the quality on these is the same as it was a year ago when I got mine, it will be worth the wait.  The Tantals sold by Atlantic are really nice.  The parts kits are matching number kits, in excellent condition.  And build quality, and overall fit and finish, is right up there with my Arsenal AK.  The only gripe I have seen from a couple people is in regard to the grey parkerizing.  But I actually like the park job on these.  YMMV.
