The gas block that protrudes from the barrel is slightly off-center on my AK. While that normally wouldn't bother me, it makes the top hand-guard not flush with the bottom hand guard (it also doesn't help that the gas tube hole is drilled slightly off center as well). Is there a way to twist the piece of metal that's attached to the barrel? I see two pins on the bottom but I haven't been able to push them out. And trying to realign using a rubber mallet have also been ineffective (I'm too afraid to hit it hard and end up either twisting the entire barrel or bending it).

Any suggestions? Or should I just take this to a gunsmith?

Also, I realize this doesn't affect the gun in any functional way. It's simply aesthetic. And no,  I didn't notice any of this when I was buying it. This is my first AK-47.

May need to have it reattached, maybe buy a new block.

Depends if the block itself is damaged, or it was attached all half-assed.

I don't think it's damaged, I think it was just put on sloppy.

I just realized I described the problem incorrectly. The gas block is not twisted. It's spun around the barrel so it's about 5 degrees off center. I just want to spin it back so it's straight. Can I just remove the pins, align it, and put the pins back in?

Not really. Those pins are there to keep it from rotating - they rest in a groove cut in the barrel.

You can press the pins out, rotate the block, and then drill, ream, and place larger pins if you want.
