| My bolt that came with my ORF AK-74 has a pitted head to it and I'd like to put in a new bolt. How do you headspace an AK or is it more of put it in, seat a gauge in, and if it closes your good? |
If your bolt face is pitted, the throat and forward portion of the bore may be pitted too, usually it is. |
| I also had minor pitting/ring on the bolt face of my ORF 74. These were not from "new kits". When I had a paratrooper sks that was new it developed the same "pitting/ring" after maybe 500 rounds, I think its normal. I ran close to 40 thousand rounds thu that puppy and the pitting never got worse. I dont think it's anything to worry about. |
| The easiest way to HS is to try bolts until you find one that HS's. Unfortunately, not many of us have a box of 5.45 bolts laying around. Until you have the new bolt in hand, all we can do is guess at what needs to be done. You never know, it might HS perfectly. It is easier to work with a bolt that produces insufficient HS. All you have to do is remove material from the lugs to open it up. Excessive headspaced bolts require moving the barrel closer. |
