Need feedback on Century arms line of AK'S, was in a store today looking at making a purchase and was wanting what the "experts" on here had to say about them before I drop the money on it.

All depends on what model and how much they are asking for it.  Century Arms model?  That doesn't narrow it down much. I've owned several SAR-1s and a SAR-2 and none of them were junk in the least.

Is it a WASR-1,2 or 3
SAR-1,2 or 3
Is it a Yugo kit build fullstock or underfolder?

Single stack mag rifle or double stacked?

Is it a new rifle or used?

Does it cost $200.00 or $500.00?

It was a new rifle,  I guess I will stay away from that type, do you know of any  firearm dealers in Texas? I am having a hard time locating any ak's in my area.

There are literally thousands of people happily shooting away with their WASRs, completely oblivious to some of the "experts" on the Innernet.
That said, any AK, including a stamped Arsenal, should be inspected for defects before purchase.

You still haven't answered the questions, but none of the Century rifles should cost in the $500.00 to $900.00 range.

If you are going to ask question about what you should buy you have to give more details.  The question is asked many times a week and we can't just give you an answer without knowing what you are looking for.

Caliber 7.62x39, .223, .308, 5.45x39?
Fullstock or underfolder?
postban or preban?
milled or stamped receiver?
Imported rifle or kit build?

just more often with the Century WASRs.......they have a lengthy track record of being very problematic rifles with horrible fit and finish.

like I said IMHO its better to take the money you want to spend and put it towards better quality......It can save you lots of possible headaches in the long wrong.....just do a search for century WASRs and see what you find.  You did good to come on here and ask before you buy, these are good boards and alot of us are not "EXPERTS" by any means.....just long time shooters, long time owners of various makes and brands of AKs, we have gone through it and we usually know whats good to go and what is JUNK.......like MAK said....there is absolutely no reason you should be paying $500 for a WASR and I hope thats not what your dealer is charging.  For $500-$900 you can have a great rifle....I honestly dont think you have to spend over $550 to $600 to get a fantastic build........as MAK said give us some more info on exactly what you were looking at and we will all do our best to help you out

good luck  and WELCOME!

Also check the Equipment Exchange here on the board but refrain from posting comments about rifles for sale in guy's ads or it will get you booted from the site with a quickness.  I think you might want to go edit your comments and read the EE rules

I bought 2 of their 223 AKs and both had trouble feeding, so I called and sent them back under their warranty.

They fixed them both so to me it's worth the savings since they will fix something if it doesn't work, once it does you have a realiable AK at a cheaper price.

You can also buy an expensive one and have issues that need corrected, that's not a CAI brand.

I'm not real sure why they knock them on-line when they stand behind and fix their problems.

It's your money and your decision, don't get to hung up and what any of us say.

My fun with buying Century guns is fixing them up.  Usually pretty cheap, so you can do a few things to them to make them much better for very little money.  All of mine are 100% now.  No feeding problems and they look great.

Fun to work on...

It was a polish tantal, was the folder type and was 5.45 caliber. was wanting 450.00, I was really wanting the 7.62x39 but this one caught my eye.The price  seemed reasonable but I did not know about the reputation of this brand and now I got an idea. Guess I will continue the search and maybe look for a Norinco or something with a milled reciever and maybe that will bypass issues with cheap made AK's.

The Interarms Tantals are supposedly built with the original barrels, the Century ones with new US barrels.  The Century ones may have problems with keyholing of rounds according to some owners reviews.

The Century Yugo's are great rifles and by far the most common seen

with 500-900 bucks you can buy an awesome AK rifle. Don't buy a WASR if thats your budget.

Century AKs -MHO

M70 Yugo (Yugo parts set on U.S./DCI receiver) - Great guns, built on DCI receiver. U.S. made barrel + 4 other 922 parts.

SAR (Romy w/ dimples) - Good, solid gun. Proper Romanian receiver w/ utility (miltary) finish some had canted FSB or other minior problems but usually nothing that cannot be easily corrected. 5 U.S. made 922 parts. No longer imported.

WASR (Romanian) - These guns were imported as using 10rnd single-stack magazines. Century then opened-up the mag well (to accept hi-cap) and added a feed ramp as well as adding the required 922 part count. Some have had problems but most problems will be easily corrected. All current CAI Romanian AK offerings are variants of this model.

CAI Tantal builds - Polish parts set built on U.S. made receiver. These have not had great reports. The Interarms/High Standard builds are much nicer for about the same price and use the original Polish barrel.

To sum it up, the CAI M70-Yugo, SAR and even the WASR; CAN BE GREAT rifles if you know what to look for and can hand-select your particular gun. If you have problems most will be easily corrected. If you get a lemon, Century actually offers good warranty service (in my experience) IF you follow their rules and act in a timely manner.

Good Luck.
