Click here for Russian Red I was searching and saw the "AKM 47RM Russian Red Rifle" and looking for feedback. Of course on the web site, the rifle looks awesome, but how does it look in reality? Is there any significants to the "Russian Red"? Is that just a term or this is the color the older stocks used to be? Any feedback or general information would be appreciated. Thanks! |

"Russian Red" is a vague marketing term for Minwax stained Romanian furniture. "Blonde" is another term and is usually associated with Bulgarian rifles. The beauty of original Russian laminated wood comes from a combination of the type of shellac used and the nature of the birch laminate. Romanian lamnate sucks in comparison (lots of voids, inconsistent thickness of the layers etc.) and although people try to duplicate it's character, it never looks as good. They usually look washed out or purple. Polish stocks are a better candidate, but still lack the Soviet charm. This is Russian red. I've never seen anyone come close to matching it with Romanian wood. Taken from Tantal's site.  |
| I think the "Russian Red" on the Romanian rifles tends to be a bit too red. A lot of the Tula-made AKM's had nice, deep red furniture but a slightly different shade than the more pronounced red ones being sold. But they're still a neat rifle if you can find one at a great price. |

Thanks for replies and links. It may for some good reading. Anyone want to PM me the kind of deal they received from Atlantic Arms on their AK as a member of this board? (not sure they would want this info posted) Currently I am undecided in putting money towards ammo, a M1 Carbine from CMP or a Russian Red AK.
