The Bulgarian SSR85 I ordered will arrive tomorrow and I'll be sending it right back because I didn't read the ad close enough and I don't want a welded, brake.

What do you gentlemen think of this unit from Atlantic?

www.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=278

Good rifle, fair price? Considerded to be a real Russian?

Opinions, please.

Yep... that's a real Russian.

Pretty cool gun.  If I had the money, I'd get one, but it's above my price range.  I'd deffinately take one of those over a bulgarian, any day.  Not because either one is particularly better, just prefference.  I like the Russian rifles more because Kalashnikov himself works at the plant they were made at.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Saiga conversions, but I think your money would be better spent on an SLR-107FR, just because they have the folding stock, the cleaning rod guide on the gas block, the magwell dimples, and no extra FCG holes.

So, it is a conversion (I know, it does say Saiga in the ad).

I do not want a folder.  Just a genuine AK type.  Where did the fella get the Bulgarian SSR85 (c or 2 or ?) without the welded flash supressor.  That would have been fine, too.

More input please.

thx.

Other than the welded brake, what did you think of the Bulgy?  How was the fit and finish?  The action?

Where does it say "welded brake"? I don't see that. Even if it is, why is that a problem? It's a 103 style brake. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Looks like a very nice Saiga conversion.

Captain Ahab will damn the ship in his battle to maintain AK dimples!

He is saying the Bulgarian he ordered with the slant brake is welded.  Don't know why they do that.  There are no threads under the brake supposedly.

You may be not be seeing the welded brake because you are looking at the ad for the next rifle I am looking for advice, on.

The welded brake is on the one I bought...this one:

www.atlanticfirearms.com/programming/expand.asp?Prodid=493

I don't like a welded brake because that part of the rifle is now, well, messed up by welding.

Anyway, it arrives, tomorrow, maybe something will attract me.  An unreasonable amount to return it. But, another lesson.

Still interested in the Russian Saiga conversion.
Seeya...

Chris is right.

SLR-107FR is Bulgarian genuine AK type. It is carbon copy of real Russian AK 103 that is currently manufactured by Izmash.
You don't have to fold the stock, though it is a nice option Hillary and Obama doesn't want you to have.

Pic is of AK101 (5.56), 103 (7.62)  looks the same except for the mag.

But, I'm not looking for a folder.

I'll see what the day brings.  Maybe I'll be happy with what I get.

I appreciate the comments.

Thanks.
