Houston - - - we have a problem . . .

Hello gents,

At the toy show yesterday, I purchased a new Romanian PSL rifle. Came with a very nice 4 power scope and a couple of extra mags.  Bought it from a dealer that I have done business with in the past.

Took my new prize to the range today and all I can say is – DISAPPOINTMENT ! ! !

Fired a total of 15 rounds and brought her back home.  Appears rifle has MAJOR head space issues.  Out of four different types of 54R ammo, I had four blown primers and two case-head separations.

Rifle came from Century.  Looks like she’ll be going back to them too.

So . . .. has anyone had experience with Century and returns ? ?   I can ship it from my local UPS depot, but what about the return ? ?

Like I said – Houston  - -  we have a problem . . . .

From what I know of transferring rifles for repairs, as long as you are sending the rifle directly to the manufacturer and having it come straight back, it should be kosher to use a commercial shipping company.

There was a recall on Century PSLs a little while ago but I don't think it was related to headspacing issues, I think the receivers had the FA notch drilled or something.

from what I have read, century is pretty good about making repairs

they should send the repaired rifle right back to your door, unless it needs a new reciever/new gun

Century is very responsive.

They have ALWAYS been very accomadating to me.   I would have the dealer send it to them for the repair.

Yes I have had experience. When you explain the problem they should admit it is coverered under warrentee. If they tell you to pay shipping ask for their supervisor. Explain to supervisor that you have purchased a Century product that could have killed you and you think its a little out of line that shipping is on you. This should do it. If not go to the next supervisor and repeat.

I DID this with my WASR. They scheduled a UPS pickup at my home. It was on thier dime. Rifle I think was unrepairable so they sent another one to my door that came from SOG also on their dime. How they worked the serial number I have no idea because it sure wasn't the same. So the records at the FFL I used say I have a gun I do not and as far as any records on the gun I have they are not signed by me.

Point it get them to pay both ways, demand satisfaction. If everyone did it it would eat into their bottom line and they would sober up the monkeys and stop hiring the blind people to do QC.
Cheers,

Trust me, there is still a paper trail for the ATF to find you if needed. What Century did was legal.

No I wasn't implying anything ILLEGAL was done. I just don't know what or how it was done. Wouldn't mind knowing how they did it without my signature. I didn't even have to sign the UPS guys thing. New WASR runs like a champ.

I know your pain.  I had a case head sep this weekend with a PSL and ended up with some burns, some pieces of case in my wrist...and marks on my face.  All due to a bad...get this...Czech silvertip round.  First problem I ever had with it.  I just got done bragging how accurate and reliable it's been and karma bit me in the ass...

I feel your pain, CMS ! !

Man -- I was PUMPED when I got to the range -- and then POW -- down the tubes  ! !

Brand spanking new rifle.  Pretty sure it's a head-space problem.  About .020-.030 of "freeplay" once the bolt locks into the trunnion.  That would explain the problems with four different types of ammo.

Can this be fixed ? ?  I'm gonna try to contact Century later today.

I have a PSL and have come to understand what PSL stands for: Piece of Sh** Literally.
The rifle jammed on every round, so I installed a buffer, that worked. Bought spare mags and had to handfit each one. The scope rail was mismachined, so with the scope installed and using all the windage, I can place the rounds on paper at twenty five yards. New rail ordered and waiting for it to come in. Irons sights are typical and the rifle will hit the broad side of a barn using light ball at 100 yards (Man was the farmer pissed) Trigger is creepy and sloppy, kinda like a $5 hooker that stands under the broken streetlight. All in all,I find the gun a challenge to make work and will continue my efforts to make a silk purse from a sows ear.

Not all PSL's are bad...most are alright.

Mine had a rare, el-primo Romy trigger pull and ran 100%. Good ones are out there.

At least BB still has Mosins to play with!
