I got a slant brake for my Romanian AK, what is the trick to getting the standard nut off and installing the slant brake?

Is the nut spot welded on?
If so cut the weld.
If not, depress the plunger and screw off. Remember it's a left hand thread.

No weld, thank you very much.

POLYTHENEPAM  was just trying to help you out.   What model of Romy do you have?  If you bought your AK new in box and there was a muzzlenut on it.   I'll garendamnedtee you it's tack welded on.     And there may or may not be threads under the nut.
Like POLYTHENEPAM said you'll need to cut the welds and see if it will twist off.

I think he's saying there's no weld.  And then giving thanks for the help.  But the way it's written it looks different.

Also remember if there are threads underneath whatever's there they should be LEFT handed. That would be standard practice for AK muzzle devices.

Thats odd.  My ORF 74 style is right hand twist.

They are talking about barrels threaded 14x1LH.  Your ORF 74 doesn't have a threaded barrel, it should have a threaded front sight block and the barrel is unthreaded under the FSB.  The AK-74 has threads on the FSB that are 24mmx1.5 right hand threads.

That's the way I took it.

RobbieB I apologize if I misunderstood the sentiment of your statement

Some of the Romy's (early WASR, etc.) had a PRESSED on muzzle nut, with no threads underneath.  This may be a possibility here, since the OP says there is no weld present. If you have one of these, you'll probably need to cut the muzzle nut off lengthwise with the home gunsmith's favorite tool, the Dremel!

No weld and it did have threads.

Be safe and have fun.
BTW: I have found the the slant break affects the poa, so don't be surprised.
