My AK had a little problem. I bought one with a AK 74 style muzzle brake on it (it is a 7.62x39 AK). I literally could not hit a 4x8 sheet of plywood with it at 50 yards. It pissed me off to no end and when I flipped the gun upside down at the range about two weeks ago I found the problem, bullets were hitting the brake. So I sent the gun back and they fixed that problem and I told them to sight the gun in at 50 yards. Well there is no way in hell that they did because I took the gun to the range today and well to be on the positive side I finally am able to hit a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper with it but I still need the bullet impact to go 4 more inches to the left. The problem is is that the front sight post is already all the way over to the right hand side. So much so that if I needed to adjust the height of the bullet impact I would literally have to move the front sight post to the left because the sight tool can not get ahold of the front sight due to the front sight post all the way over to the right and the front sight hood getting in the way. My question is this. I know that the AR 15 FSB has the two pins and that the barrel has two slots machined in the barrel for the two pins to go into. My AK FSB also has two pin holes so my question is, is my AK the same as the AR FSB in the manner of the two pins and the barrel having two slots cut into the barrel? I am just wondering if I could fix this problem myself I have a brass hammer and some punch pins. How hard is it to do? Do you need a special jig or something. I am not totally an idiot when it comes to fixing things around the house and I reload so as long as it is not to involved I think I could Handel the task. TIA for any help and advice. |

If your rounds are impacting left, don't you need to drift the front sight post to the left (as you are looking down the sights toward the target)? And yes if you know the two pins out you can move the front sight base. Here is a link that I found helpful: www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/fsbcantfix.htm |

no, he is entirely correct - to move poi to the left, you move the front sight to the right - and yes, you can punch out the pins, tap the fsb to the right a bit, drill the holes out to create new "grooves" in the barrel and replace the pins to secure. I've done it several times to correct this. Another less aggrivating course of action would be to purchase a windage adjustable rear sight and install in place of the stock rear sight. |

I agree with OSOK. Northridge Inc. has RPK windage adjustable rear sights listed on their website. I have these on two of my AK'S and they are a whole lot easier than putzing around with the front sight. www.northridgeinc.com/ak47_sks.htm |
| Thanks for the help guys but after reading a few things not only in in this thread but in others as well I think it would be best to just send the gun back to the manufactor and let them fix the gun right (as it should have been when it was built). The thing that pisses me off is that they just had it a week or two ago and had they sighted the gun in at 50 yards (like I asked them to do) they would have seen the problem and should have fixed it. Now they get to pay for shipping 4 times instead of two times. But to their account they did not give me any shit about it and was very fast. I just wished they sighted the damn thing in like I asked them to. |
-Now on this rear site as far as left and right adjustment goes which way moves the POI in relation to the rear site? Is it move it to the right to move the POI to the right or the other way around? I am talking about the rear site only here. TIA. |
