Ive been looking at them, never had one.Are they a quality scope.I kind of like the 8x but it looks a bit much for a AK.
Based on owning one for not very long, I think it just is what it is--a big, clunky, roughly made, not very expensive optic. Seems to work fine, however the illuminated reticle is a joke. No manual supplied by the retailer. Would hate to get it wet--doesn't looks like it's very well sealed around the turrets. Had intended to get the 8X, but checked the wrong box on the order form and got the 4-8X which is really an overkill for an AK, but for my purposes it will be fine. Should have gotten the 2-5X. One of the recent posters on this board had a mounting problem with an 8X on an AK. If you've seen one, then you wont be disappointed.

I think the PSO and POSP series are some of the best scopes you can buy for the money. I have 5, thinking about picking up a 6th They are way more durable than you might think, they are weather resistant and they hold zero very well. Personally I think the illuminated reticule is awesome. I am always happy to have it when I go hog hunting here in Texas...low light/pre dawn shots are very common and the illuminated reticule is perfect. For an AK yeah I think the 8x is probably overkill, but the 4x's are great and aren't terribly expensive. Keep in mind there are 2 mounts for the scopes and thats why sometimes they don't fit. If the locking lever is on top, its an SVD mount and won't fit on an AK. If the lever is on the bottom, its an AK mount and it will fit on the SVD or the AK, though on the SVD its sits a little too high to shoot comfortably. I think they are great for the money, have great optical clarity and are pretty resistant to abuse. They are military issue scopes for the combloc countries after all, so I would expect some durability in the field. Mine have never had a problem so far. Z |
Glad to see the endorsement. My problem with the "illuminated reticle" is that it is extremely dim--has to be almost dark to even tell it's on. Some models have an adjustable illumination feature--mine doesn't. Tried new batteries. Still, although I should have gotten a physically smaller, lower powered model, I'm satisfied with the product.
For the normal range of a 47 the 4x is fine. For the 74 or 54r guns, maybe more. The std 4x lets you peek under to see irons if things get close and fast. IF you need more mag, spend $40 to reach the 4-8x so you have options. GLass may be a bit yellow but they are very reliable.
