| Has anyone attemped to attach a flat weaver rail to the AK cover? It would be low enough to add a rear flip up sight to co-wittnes through a high mounted red dot. |
it's been done and doesn't work too well. The cover is too flimsy to keep a consistent zero. Just wait a couple more weeks or up to a month. DPH Arms is coming out w/ a Beryl style rail that should be on their site next week...according to Scott. Also Kreb's will be releasing their Beryl style rail w/ A2 rear sights sometime in April. Be ready to give an arm and a leg for it though...as with all things made by Kreb's. |
One it will allow you to take some of the weight off the front of the rifle and transfer your optic back to the middle of the rifle (ala AR style or AK side mount style) Second it will allow you have have a rear sight w/ more sight radius which is always a plus. Third...when mounting an optic above the gas tube it is possible to lose zero if cleaning the tube by removing the rail whether it be an Ultimak or Surefire M83 style rail. Fourth it will allow you to most likely mount scout style optics or variable optics being that you can now use mounts that will take up more real estate. I'm sure there are more pluses but those are the ones that are going to justify my purchasing of this type of rail. |
